The Compassionate Celebrant 💖
Lucy Jessop is a wedding celebrant based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, creating personal, story-led wedding ceremonies across Kent, East Sussex, London and beyond.
Through The Compassionate Celebrant, Lucy works with couples who want their ceremony to feel meaningful, beautifully written and completely personal to them. Her ceremonies are shaped around each couple’s story: how they met, what they have built together, what they value, and the promises they are making as they step into married life.
Lucy trained with the UK Society of Celebrants and brings a creative, calm and heartfelt approach to every ceremony she writes and leads. Before becoming a celebrant, she spent much of her career working in events across the arts, charity and music sectors, giving her a strong understanding of the care, detail and emotion that goes into creating a day that feels considered from start to finish.
As a writer and poet, Lucy has a natural love of language and the way words can hold meaning, emotion and connection. Her ceremonies blend storytelling, symbolism and feeling in a way that reflects the couple at the heart of the day. Whether a couple is looking for something romantic, spiritual, relaxed, traditional with a personal twist, or completely their own, Lucy works with them to create a ceremony that feels true to their relationship.
Lucy is especially drawn to weddings with heart: ceremonies that honour love, family, friendship, memory, heritage, nature, spirituality, animals, or the small details that make a couple’s story theirs. As a vegan, animal lover and spiritual-friendly celebrant, she is always happy to support couples who want to include personal values, beloved pets, symbolic rituals or meaningful traditions within their ceremony.
For weddings and commitment ceremonies, Lucy can include ritual elements such as handfasting, jumping the broom, unity sand, tree planting, wishing jars, personal vows, symbolic offerings, smoke cleansing, or bespoke rituals created especially for the couple.
Every ceremony is written from scratch and shaped around the couple’s story, beliefs, values and vision for the day.
Lucy’s role is to help couples create a ceremony that feels considered, personal and unmistakably theirs. A ceremony with meaning, beauty and a clear sense of who they are as a couple.
