The Story of Victoria Baths

Victoria Baths is a Grade II* listed Edwardian swimming pool located just outside Manchester City Centre, which welcomes couples to host an unforgettable wedding celebration at a unique and historic venue.

The baths originally opened in 1906 as a state-of-the-art public bathing facility for the people of Manchester. The best of its kind, it featured some of the most ornate tiling and stained glass ever seen in a municipal building.
Throughout the decades, Victoria Baths has been at the heart of the local community's memories and stories. In the 1950s and 1960s, The Gala Pool was used for live music and dances many young couples met, fell in love, and started their own journeys together during this time.

After closing as a public pool in 1993, a passionate group of local supporters came together to form the Victoria Baths Trust, dedicated to preserving this remarkable building and the memories within it. Thanks to their efforts, much of the Baths has been lovingly restored.
Today, couples are lucky enough to celebrate their wedding in the very same building, making new memories and continuing the legacy of love and connection in this extraordinary building.

Spaces

The building holds three former swimming pools, each now transformed into flexible event spaces. The Gala Pool, with its dramatic Edwardian grandeur and natural light, is our largest and most popular space for ceremonies and receptions, comfortably accommodating up to 300 guests. Its cast-iron balconies, vaulted ceiling, and sense of scale create a jaw-dropping setting for your big day.
The Sports Hall, originally a swimming pool, features a 1970s covered floor and has hosted live music, dances, and sports over the decades. This space is especially popular for evening wedding receptions thanks to its flat floor, perfect for dancing, along with ambient lighting and a bar.
The Female Pool is the most untouched and original in the building, offering a stunning backdrop for photos. This versatile space is often used creatively at weddings, allowing you to add a personal and unique touch to your celebration.

A Huge, Beautiful, Unique, and Customisable Space

The Victoria Baths was overall a great venue to host our wedding. The price is pretty high objectively but reasonable for what you are receiving in terms of space and extra perks (particularly compared to similar venues, though not many exist!), and the venue is also very accommodating with additional requests or customisation. The venue itself is stunning (and unusual) which can save money on additional decorations - we opted for a few high-impact things (e.g. a giant disco ball!). They are well set up for catering teams to come in and provide anything you need (the advantage is that you have complete free choice over type of food to meet your budget and tastes). Bear in mind it can get warm in the summer (but you can supply fans or bring in air con), and that some additional things (linens, napkins, different chairs if you want them) need to be hired in. Also bear in mind the size of the space can mean speeches or music need some careful amplification. The corkage policy for pre-bar opening is very reasonable though could be slightly better communicated in the wedding brochure (i.e. until when in the day can corkage be used). Overall, amazing place and we will remember the day forever. All feedback from our guests on the venue has been highly positive as well.

What a unique venue

We had our wedding at Victoria Baths in July and it was AMAZING! We loved the uniqueness of this venue, and the history associated with it, and so did our guests. The whole process of visiting and booking, and planning, was dealt with professionally and with enthusiasm. The staff were so helpful and we can't thank them enough for making our day so wonderful, and stress free.

Victoria Baths Wedding

The team at VB, in particular Tom were really engaging and helpful with the planning and we loved that you could decorate the amazing building how you want. We had Bundobust catering with an amazing veggie buffet that was a real hit, Emily the celebrant conducting the ceremony, Mark Newton taking the photos and regather in Sheffield doing the flowers and it all came together a treat! We found our band Manhattan in function central and they were super fun to dance too in the incredible venue

An amazing venue for quirky couples

I fell in love with Victoria Baths as soon as I walked in the door and knew it was the perfect venue for our wedding as a quirky couple! After all, who else gets married in an Edwardian swimming pool? Not to mention that a few months before our big day, Chanel held their fashion show after party there! So cool!

We opted for a big family wedding, and there was ample space for our guests. We got married in the main pool, had our reception in the sports hall and had the second pool as a kids area with a bouncy castle and soft play. Theres also smaller rooms for reception drinks and places to get ready.

Nothing was too much trouble for our event planner, Chris, who helped us design and orchestrate our dream day, including an owl ring bearer and Elvis as entertainment. The photographs are stunning and we had no worries about weather with the venue being inside. We decorated ourselves the day before and had charcuterie boards for the wedding breakfast followed by woodfired pizzas at the reception.

But my favourite thing about the venue has to be that the money goes back into running the venue, restoring the building and organising events for visitors. It's a truly wonderful place and an iconic venue. I couldn't be happier with how it went.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to make your big decisions easier.
