Every love story is beautiful
Congratulations on your engagement and consideration for celebrating your special day here at The White Swan.
A truly historic hotel, The White Swan's building has been dated back to 1450. It was used as an inn as early as 1560, when it was known as the King's House or Hall. It was owned by Robert Perrott, a brewer, and kept by his brother, William.
Roberts’s granddaughter Susanne Woodward married a young officer caller Richard Tyler in 1588. Richard was one of William Shakespeare’s boyhood friends, therefore it is likely that William Shakespeare and the young married couple would have drunk many a drink in the newly decorated tavern.
Richard Tyler already had a passion for ales since his father William Tyler was appointed Ale Taster for the borough in 1557. This role would presumably have been responsible for certifying the quality of licensed ales.

We fell in love with the White Swan, and planned the rest of our wedding around the use of their gorgeous rooms.Sent on 30/12/2019
The package that the venue offers is incredibly good value. Unlike other venues we approached, the costs were all upfront. We found some places give you a price, but then actually there's additional charges for table linen. At the White Swan it's all included. Louise even put together a seating plan and name plates for the table, which gave us one less thing to worry about.
We chose not to decorate the function rooms, as we felt they existing decor was enough. And with the candelabras on the table it was an impressive sight.
The food package is very generous. We had so many guests say they've never been so well fed at a wedding! And it was all fantastic quality. The service on the day was excellent, nothing was too much trouble.
All in all we're so happy with our experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our day, and know that in no small part that's down to the efforts of Louise and her colleagues ensuring that everything was in hand, and all we had left to do was enjoy it. Thank you so much!"
We got married at the White Swan on the 7th of February 2009. From the very 1st time we went in to look at the venue, the general manager Mr Ali Kocu, made us feel very welcome. He seemed to go very much out of his way to make our day very special. Everyone hopes their wedding day will be perfect, ours was not because the staff at the white swan made it far better than perfect. Ali and wedding coordinator Anne went way beyond what we expected. We had the ceremony in the Shakespeare room, which looked absolutly fantastic. All of our guests were made to feel very welcome by all of the staff. We would recommend this venue to anyone. We had a wedding that people thought was seriously expensive at a very reasonable cost. I cannot thank Ali and his staff enough for the day of our lives. Thank youSent on 02/03/2009
Great winter wedding
We were due to marry in August but due to personal circumstances had to delay the wedding. The White Swan were excellent in accommodating all of our requests at short notice and we would recommend them.Sent on 19/12/2007
