The Sessions House is a historic wedding venue in Spalding, on the border of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. Built as a courthouse in 1843, it served justice for 150 years. Now, it is a unique event venue within a gothic-style castle structure. Many of the building’s original architecture and features have been carefully restored and remain to this day.
Conveniently located only 20 minutes by car from Peterborough, and 1.5 hours by train from London, The Sessions House welcomes guests both local and from afar.
Facilities and Capacity
The Sessions House is licensed to hold civil ceremonies, making it the perfect courthouse wedding venue. Intimate affairs are held in The Emerald Room, a quirky space filled with vintage charm which accommodates 30 guests. Large ceremonies are held in The Courtroom. This cathedral-like space boasts a unique charm, and many of its original Victorian features remain unchanged. During the warmer months, the Courtyard is the perfect ceremony space with contingency plans in place so the British weather cannot affect your perfect day. Marquee hire is available from the venue, should you wish to celebrate with the iconic building and its grounds as your backdrop.
Festivities flow seamlessly through the space, with fabulous drinks served after the ceremony. The Courtroom becomes a beautiful evening reception room with high ceilings and a large dance floor. It is expertly equipped with high-end sound systems. The judge’s bench converts into a stage for live music or DJs. The venue is proudly pet-friendly, allowing your four-legged friends to participate in the celebrations. The Sessions House is available for exclusive hire, granting you and your guests private use of its interesting rooms and gorgeous photo backgrounds.

The Sessions House prides itself on its dedicated caterers. They will work with you to create the ideal menus for each part of the celebration. Offering diverse dining options, the choice between canapés, buffets, sit-down meals, or street food trucks is up to you. The team will customise each aspect to suit your dream wedding day.

Something special/different
We had about 100 guests during the day and 150 in the evening.
I got ready in the morning in the bridal room on site which I think is a new room that they've had done. That made things really easy as me and my two bridesmaids could relax while the guests arrived. I then had my registrar interview in the stately room which was really grand and then finally I walked down the aisle in the courtroom - the accoustics in there are great and it feels really special to walk down the aisle with our special song resonating in the room.
The food we had (afternoon tea) was really nice and the guests really enjoyed it - and then afterwards we went outside in the courtyard with some of the garden games - and then finally back in with everyone for the evening party.
I'd recommend getting the lighting upgrades for the party - they had lasers and smoke machines going which made it feel like a proper celebration.
the team have been superb from start t finish.
Really recommend The Sessions in Spalding to other couples - you won't regret.

The venue is really special - love the atmosphere - and the transformation the main court room goes through from our ceremony to the meal to the party was incredible. We have some amazing memories here - we hope that other couples also read this and choose to have their wedding here - it really is a great team and a great venue.
