Before choosing Stanbrook Abbey as our venue, we were already aware that Stanbrook Abbey is one of the premier settings for a wedding in Worcestershire. We had visited the hotel 2 or 3 times for meals and cups of coffee, so we had seen the wonderful grounds including the Willow Garden and the surrounding gardens, we had visited The Great Hall and seen how tastefully the hotel had woven a traditional hotel in with an established historic building.
Right from the start, the level of professionalism and warmth from the team is an experience. We had visited other venues and didn’t feel that the person we were speaking to, really understood what we wanted.
We first spoke to Stanbrook Abbey before COVID 19. Our organiser was Caylie. During what was to become a very difficult year for everyone, Caylie was the consummate professional. What became very evident, this is not just a job to Caylie, rather, it is something that she really enjoys doing. This is seen in the way that despite being furloughed a couple of times, Caylie and the team were always there. The level of support they gave us during the year, despite the uncertainty that they were feeling as well, was amazing.
During the planning process, Caylie helped us to source suppliers. As Stanbrook is a very unique setting, we felt that we needed suppliers who knew and understood the hotel. The relationship that Caylie and the team have with the suppliers made our negotiations so easy.
Due to lockdown, we were unable to follow the normal timeframes. Our original date of getting married on Christmas Eve never altered, but the timeframes for menu tasting etc were delayed. Despite that, the hotel almost seemed to redouble their efforts in making sure that we got the opportunity to have our menu and wine tasting evening coming out of lockdown with 22 days to go before the wedding!
Even though the numbers had reduced greatly from our original plans, Caylie and the team had remained as committed. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. When we checked into the hotel for our wedding, we were met by Jessica, who made us feel very welcome. In fact, the checking in process was so simple and easy that our parents didn’t have the normal 10 minutes stood around waiting to fill in loads of paperwork!
The team that looked after us in the restaurant and at our wedding were terrific. On our menu tasting night, we had been introduced to a lady called Sharifa. At the start she told us that she would be looking after us that evening, she would be looking after us on our wedding day. From our point a view it was so nice to see a familiar face on our wedding day and anything we needed, Sharifa and the team ensured we got it. Others in the team that need a mention are Marco who congratulated us at breakfast on the day of our wedding, Claire who quite rightly, refers to coffee as the “elixir of life” – what a refreshing way to be looked after. Team members that obviously care and actually enjoy meeting new people and looking after customers.
On our wedding menu taster night, we were also introduced to Clyde. Clyde was our Event Manager for the day. Clyde quietly and with no fuss, just got everything sorted. With new rules coming into force due to COVID, the ceremony part had changed a considerable amount. No music other than from an IPod, 3 pages of rules of do’s and don’ts from the Registrars, and Clyde calmly got everything organised on the day. Working seamlessly with our suppliers before and during the wedding, Clyde helped to make everything come together.
There are still a number of the team that we haven’t met. The team led by Chef produced some incredible food. We checked into the hotel the night before our wedding. We ate in the restaurant. The food was beautiful and presentation was incredible. With only six covers for the evening it appeared, Chef and his teams attention to detail was yet again, testament to the levels of professionalism that the Stanbrook Abbey team have in bucketfuls.
The team that looks after the rooms, took us by surprise as well. We weren’t expecting them to sort our hotel room out whilst we stayed, but they did! Not only did they reset everything but they also left us a little gift on our wedding day.
We don’t have enough superlatives to describe the efforts that the Stanbrook team went to during our whole wedding experience. Whilst we want to thank everyone in the team, we would wish to thank Caylie especially. During what was a very difficult year for her, she was never less than professionalism. Her focus, commitment and positive attitude should be recognised and we would like to say thank you for making our wedding the best day that we could have ever had.
To anyone reading this, if you are considering Stanbrook Abbey for your wedding venue, we would highly recommend it. The team are exceptional, their knowledge and passion for what they do is incredible, their compassion and care for each and every customer, in whatever capacity they are there for, is a testament to the way that this business operates. Stanbrook is more than a premier choice for Worcestershire, we think it should be a premier choice for wherever you are in the UK.

COVID-19 Wedding
We finally got married on attempt number 4! Stanbrook moved the date each time without any issues. They took so much stress out of a COVID wedding. We had our little ceremony in the Callow Great Hall and we plan to do it all again once we are able to have all our guests there.
I will write another review to be able to say what it’s like when you have a big wedding there but we had 6 of us plus our 2 photographers at our wedding and the venue was PERFECT! The Grooms Room was the perfect space for the boys to get ready before going into the bar or the hall to wait on me (the bride) and my bridal party to be ready. The privacy we all had before the wedding was wonderful and really what we all needed to be able to relax and calm ourselves before the main event.
The ceremony went so fast but the staff helped us with the music, the timings for the bridal party walking in. They were there with us both to keep us calm before the ceremony started. They were superb!
After the ceremony the bar staff looked after our 4 guests in the bar whilst we went off around the grounds to have photographs taken. We had complete access and so did our photographers, which enabled them to go around the grounds before the wedding to work out how they wanted the photos to look and where they wanted to take them.
After our photos we met up with our guests in the restaurant, where we had booked tables to be able to celebrate the wedding. They let us have our wedding cake for our dessert and even turned the music off so mu 9 year old daughter could do a speech. The waiting staff brought us complimentary drinks to celebrate our day and one of the waiters even told me about he had met his partner there and the two of them hoped to be able to marry next year. I know he works there so he knows how amazing Stanbrook is but I encouraged him to have something held at his work because everyone was AMAZING! Truly AMAZING!
Liza, helped my from day one and even when furloughed she did her best to make sure if I had questions they were answered. She kept in touch when the wedding was uncertain and she let me cry when I needed to be sad that it had to be cancelled again!
Now she’s helped me have my perfect mini ceremony and next year when we hopefully get to do it with everyone we originally planned to have, she has already said she will be there every step of the way for that too.
I cannot recommend them enough. Beautiful setting, beautiful, caring staff and it all created the most beautiful, perfect day in some pretty difficult circumstances!

Amazing White Wedding
We first visited Stanbrook Abbey as a night away after we had recently got engaged, it was a local venue that we both really wanted to visit as a possible venue for our big day. We looked at other venues in the area but found that we were comparing them to Stanbrook Abbey and felt that nowhere else could offer their type of venue and services and our hearts kept being pulled back to Stanbrook.
The wedding day finally took place in December 2020 after postponing from May due to COVID-19. Stanbrook Abbey have been absolutely amazing all the way through. Our wedding coordinator Liza is a great credit to the hotel, her support from our first meeting all the way through our up and down journey of planning our big day has been the best anyone could have wished for. She has answered lots of questions, always been at the end of the phone or email even through lockdown to ensure our wedding ran smoothly and easing the stress from us both. Even on the day Liza came to both our rooms to check we were ok and also helped organise us walking in so we didn’t see each other until we were at the end of the aisle. Without her I don’t think we would have had such a superb day. Thank you so much. Liza has already said she will be there in the future to help us with our celebration party with our other family and friends that couldn’t join us on the day due to the restrictions.
From when we arrived at the hotel all of the staff were brilliant, Grace on reception checked our guests in and was running around looking for additional trolleys to help us cart all our belongings in, there was a minor problem with a z-bed but this was rectified quickly and efficiently by Grace. We then met Clyde to run through our big day, he was also amazing and helped us so much. Nothing was too much trouble for him and we felt like we could relax as he took the lead with everything. He was always there for us on the day making it run as smoothly as it could. Throughout our stay all the staff were brilliant, kind attentive and thoughtful, asking if we are both ok. The staff in the restaurant from the evening meal to breakfasts were always eager to help and provided a swift service for our wedding party.
Due to COVID-19 we couldn’t have all our family and friends join us so we had a small wedding of 15 people in the Callow Great Hall. We were so worried downsizing from a large party to 15 that we would feel lost in such a big venue, but this was not the case at all. The venue is absolutely stunning for an intimate wedding as well. The ceremony ran smoothly and Stanbrook helped us set up a projector and screen to live stream all our guests that couldn’t be with us in person on the day. Liza and Clyde decorated our table and made it look beautiful for our wedding breakfast. The food served was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody, served in a timely manner, delicious and hot. Due to COVID restrictions bottles couldn’t be left on the table but staff readily served the wine to our guests so no one was left wanting.
We were lucky to stay in the Thompson suite for the duration of our visit, the room was spacious and beautiful including décor in keeping with the hotel. It was very well maintained and clean, we even had a note on the door saying the room had been fully sanitised for our stay. Our guests were in several other suites or rooms and they felt exactly the same.
We were blessed that on the wedding morning we woke up to snow which made the venue even more magical. The grounds are well maintained and with the dusting of snow we were able to have some amazing photos in the gardens.
You can guess from our review we would definitely go back again and would highly recommend Stanbrook Abbey for your wedding venue or even a night in the hotel. With difficult circumstances we were still able to have our perfect big day due to both Stanbrook Abbey and their amazing staff.
