Gorgeous venue, sub-standard food, unprofessional manager!

We instantly fell in love with this gorgeous venue and quickly booked it for our wedding. When we received the contract the prices were much higher though because Antonio had accidentally sent us the old brochure. There was zero room for negotiations and very much a ‘take it or leave it’ attitude so we decided to suck it up and pay the difference. Communication was a little slow but this didn’t bother us as we understood they didn’t have a dedicated marketing team dealing with wedding enquiries like some other places in Tuscany. However the responses could sometimes sound pretty rude and unacceptable so it was unpleasant to deal with Antonio at times. Other times he could be extremely friendly - it simply depended which mood he was in. When we saw the venue in person we felt that it exceeded our expectations. Especially as many of the rooms had recently been renovated. The first night kicked off with a welcome pizza party. The food which was presented was awful and embarrassing. I wouldn’t even serve this at a children’s party. The tiramisu consisted of yoghurt with cocoa powder served in plastic bowls - I’ve never seen this in my life and many guests didn’t even try. We were very disappointed given the price we paid to feed our guests that night. In the evening we ran out of hot water in the bridal suite so we messaged Antonio about it. We didn’t expect that he would ring the doorbell at 6:50 and then let himself inside (we didn’t lock the door) with a loud “Bongiorno”. We immediately asked him to leave and he later denied it was him or his staff although we clearly saw and heard him. The water issue was resolved in the morning. On the day of the wedding the ceremony was planned at sunset as we wanted to enjoy the pool with friends and family for as long as possible. Around 1.30pm we were told to vacate the pool so they could set up. Luckily they agreed to set the appetiser up in the beautiful court yard so we could enjoy the pool longer. After the ceremony the appetisers were a big improvement from the food the previous night. But the sit down wedding meal again didn’t live up to expectations. Mostly as they seem to struggle to serve so many people at once, despite the fact that we were only 30. So the quality of food fluctuated … some good … some overcooked … but you could tell the food had been sitting around waiting to be brought out for a while. They also changed the order of the food and started off with the risotto (so heavy!) instead of the starter we had agreed on. The wine was nice but the soft drinks were served in big plastic bottles looking like a children’s birthday again and not of high quality. Before desert my friend gave a speech during which the staff was talking so loud in the background that I had to stop the speech and ask them to be quieter as they were killing the vibe. Interrupting the speech wasn’t great either so although staff are very nice there was a lack of professionalism. After dinner guests were asking for tea and coffee … this was included in the package we paid for each guests together with digestives. They kept saying later, later but they never brought it out and they simply skipped this part. On day of departure things turned very sour with Antonio as he wanted us to pay for the music tax which I had explained that my uncles wife who is from Italy already paid for as a wedding gift using the link he provided. He didn’t tell me that he needed a copy until the second day and I told him I would send it to him very quickly but I needed some time to contact my uncles wife who wasn’t at the wedding. When we left he thought we hadn’t paid for it and sent threatening messages telling me he will contact all my guests about the music tax. What a complete lunatic! Why not just call the people collecting the music tax to confirm it has been paid or how about advising us in advance that this document is needed? We blocked him as his messages were upsetting! Overall we decided since it was our wedding we wouldn’t let anything in the way to ruin our day. We also were more flexible than most brides as we weren’t able to visit the venue prior to the wedding. But most people would have struggled with the communication, service and justifying the food for the price paid is difficult. The venue is gorgeous and we loved it but under Antonio’s management I can’t recommend it. You should definitely use a wedding planner if you get married here so you don’t have to deal with him directly and you need to lower your expectations regarding the food. If you just want a beautiful venue and setting and quality time with friends and family and everything else is negotiable then it’s worth considering. If you want a professional venue for your dream wedding then this is probably not it!!!

Effortless, chilled and perfect in every way

Wow, we had the most amazing time and few days at Borgo Il Poggiaccio with our guests. Everything was flawless and stress free, they did all of the planning and food for 3 days for 54 people- the venue is incredible and stunning and you really do lose yourself in its charm. The perfect Tuscan experience. Our guests all love it now as much as we always have! Thank you so much for everything! We have only just arrived home and already wishing we were back there! Grazie tutti!
