Not quite right for a church service

Booking was simple and straightforward, with Ben being the main point of contact. He was polite, helpful and responsive throughout the booking process.

We booked a string quartet to play during our church wedding ceremony. They arrived on time and were professional in that regard.

Unfortunately, the playing during the service was somewhat disappointing. Some of the hymns were played considerably slower than they would normally be sung, which resulted in our guests singing ahead of the musicians. While this may seem like a small issue, it did affect the overall experience of the ceremony.

The main issue, however, came when our service ran over by around 40 minutes. I completely appreciate that weddings and church services can run over, and I understand that this can have an impact on musicians’ schedules. However, on the day of the wedding, I received an email advising me that I would be charged an additional fee because of the overrun. The email also explained that the musicians had missed cross-country trains and other bookings as a result.

I paid the additional charge without hesitation, but I found the wording and timing of the email quite upsetting. Receiving an email about the financial consequences of the delay on my wedding day, and being told about the other bookings and trains the musicians had missed, felt as though I was being made to feel responsible for the wider impact on their schedule. It was something I then found myself thinking about during the wedding and in the days afterwards, which was disappointing at a time when I should simply have been enjoying the occasion.

I feel the company could perhaps give more consideration to how musicians travel to weddings, particularly church ceremonies where timings can be less predictable. If the musicians are travelling a significant distance or have other commitments immediately afterwards, I think this should be factored into the planning rather than becoming an unexpected cost and source of stress for the client.

In hindsight, I would have been happy to pay more for a company that specialises in church weddings and is more accustomed to the possibility of ceremonies running over.

Overall, while the initial booking process was good and the musicians arrived on time, the performance and, particularly, the handling of the overrun left a sour taste. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I would not recommend the company for a wedding ceremony.

Smooth, professional, great music

The company provided a brilliant cellist for our wedding reception drinks. They were super responsive via email and brilliant on the day; I would definitely recommend them to others!

Magnificent Music

We hired both a cellist for the ceremony and a string quartet to play during champagne canapes and the wedding breakfast.

Hiring these guys was a remarkably simple process- so much so I thought I had missed something and panic emailed them more than once. They are fast with communication, answer questions quickly and thoroughly and, most importantly, the music was really really lovely.

We were very vague in terms of what we wanted to be played but they adapted to the atmosphere and had such a perfect series of songs to fit our event.

The cellist played so beautifully as we were walking down the aisle and was incredibly accommodating with our desire for an outdoor, woodlands wedding.

Prices are very very fair and the artists are great, I would recommend them for any sort of event.

Our harpist was wonderful

After looking around many many musicians I contacted music students for hire for a harpist. Their communication throughout the process was excellent, we had a few unforseen circumstances with the first 2 harpists yet Ben at music students for hire kept us informed the whole time ensuring we had a harpist for our wedding day. Valeria our harpist was amazing, at short notice she played the songs we had requested and her music was magical

Fantastic and professional

Amazing and professional service. Offered great music suggestions. Don't let the title of students put you off, I'm convinced our violinist was semi-professional. Amazing value for money.
