About
Craig Smith is a professional wedding pianist providing modern, personalised live piano music for weddings across Lancashire, the Lake District, Cheshire, Merseyside, Yorkshire, and throughout the UK.
Established in 2002, Craig has spent more than 20 years performing professionally and is now recommended by approaching 50 wedding venues. His experience extends beyond weddings to work as a session musician, musical director, composer, and arranger, including performing and recording with platinum-selling and chart-topping artists.
What really sets Craig apart is the freedom couples have to make the music their own. His repertoire runs into thousands of songs and covers everything from classical and jazz to pop, rock, indie, soul, R&B, hip hop, Disney, film music, and current chart songs. There are no restrictive ceremony song lists: couples can choose music that genuinely means something to them, with arrangement and rehearsal time included.
Live piano can accompany as much or as little of the wedding as you choose, from music as guests arrive and the emotion of the ceremony through to drinks receptions, wedding breakfasts, and early evening celebrations. Craig's white and gloss-black portable baby grand pianos can be used indoors or outside, allowing the music to move with your wedding as the day develops.
Later in the day, the piano can become much more interactive. Craig is particularly well known for taking requests and reading the room, adapting what he plays to the people in front of him rather than working through a fixed set list. His unique Electronic Requests System even allows guests to send requests directly from their phones without leaving their tables or conversations. At a typical wedding using the system, more than 50 requests are submitted, making guests part of the entertainment and ensuring no two weddings ever sound quite the same.
That flexibility means the same pianist can create completely different atmospheres throughout your day: understated music while guests arrive, personally arranged songs for the ceremony, relaxed favourites over drinks and request-led entertainment during dinner. If your guests are ready for something livelier later, Craig can follow them there, too.
Craig works extensively across the North West, with particularly strong relationships with wedding venues throughout Lancashire and the Ribble Valley, as well as Cheshire, Cumbria, and the Lake District. His familiarity with so many venues means he can also advise on practical details such as where the piano works best, moving between different parts of the venue, and making outdoor wedding music work effectively.
Solo piano is the most popular choice, but Craig can also perform alongside singers, saxophonists, violinists, and other musicians for couples looking for a different live music combination.
Whether you already know every song you want or simply know how you want your wedding to feel, Craig will help create live wedding music that fits you, your guests, and your venue — rather than asking your wedding to fit a predetermined playlist.
