I recently went to Joshua Adams to hire 6 suits for my wedding day, along with purchasing my own.

What should be a stress-free, enjoyable experience was unfortunately quite the opposite during the build up, and more particularly on the week of my wedding.

My first concern was when Joshua Adams told me their policy is for us to collect the suits & have the final fitting 4 days prior to my wedding day. This wasn’t a big enough timeframe to amend all the mistakes they left themselves with so myself & my partner were forced to pick up a lot of the pieces.

During my final fitting, Adam who was seeing to us throughout our time at Joshua Adams was having one last check over the suits, to which he found he’d packed white bow ties instead of the black ones we’d purchased. Rather than accepting responsibility, he simply laughed & said my partner had ordered them incorrectly. The same partner who realised that upon purchasing 2 identical shirts for myself and getting them home, one was the wrong size, forcing us to drive back to Joshua Adams to change it.

My Dad (best man) was given the wrong size jacket & waistcoat during his final fitting. Again, too small and not the size or fit previously agreed. Because Adam thought he looked great & told us he had no other option on sizes, he disregarded my Dad’s comfortability and until we spoke up, we were forced to accept Adam’s wrongdoing. He was also given the wrong shoes to top it off!

We requested for my shirt to be embroidered months in advance. Adam told us this wouldn’t be a problem. Until 4 days prior to my wedding, he informed us that the guy who does the embroidery is no longer working there and we should go to another shop and say “Adam sent you”. I did this and found out that the guy wasn’t working until the weekend, leaving it too late for me to get my shirt embroidered.

My father in law took home the wrong size jacket, waistcoat and shoes forcing another unexpected trip back to the Joshua Adams store. He and my Dad also received the wrong style trousers. We requested for them to have the same as myself, but again, upon the final fitting received different.

My groomsmen travelled 2 hours for each fitting & during the final one, were also given a completely different size and fit to try on as to what was previously agreed.

Another groomsman was given trousers several sizes too small to try on during his final fitting. When we asked Adam if we could get a refund on the trousers he potentially wasn’t going to deliver on, he told us “I’ll have to think about that.”

Upon returning the suits, there were 3 staff members on the shop floor whilst I voiced my concerns and frustration. Adam being one of them who simply turned the other way and didn’t say a word, his colleague who listened to me but couldn’t have looked any more disinterested, and another lady who went to the other side of the store & clearly didn’t want to know. For me, this tells you everything you need to know about the service Joshua Adams has to offer.

Finally, Adam repeatedly told us “I won’t be getting a glowing review will I?” which confirms to us he’s aware of his many errors.

When providing for such big occasions & events, the standards simply have to be better. I’ll do my best to ensure people shop elsewhere so they don’t have to endure the same stress & frustration as we did leading up to one of the biggest days of our lives.

We hired six suits and purchased one suit for a wedding. We were measured and suits tried on some months beforehand. Joshua Adams policy is to collect the week before (they requested Tuesday if possible) and any issues identified will be remedied during collection.
We were looked after by Adam throughout our journey.
It’s difficult to believe one person could make so many mistakes.
White bow ties (should have been black), Groom ordered two identical shirts, these were provided in different sizes.
Both dads received the wrong trousers.
Three jackets didn’t fit, six pairs of shoes incorrect style, one waistcoat too big, two pairs of trousers too small. All significantly wrong.
Personally my jacket was too tight. Adam told me I needed a “tailored fit” rather than a “slim fit”.
When he realised they didn’t have one in stock, and no other options fitted, he proceeded to tell me that I looked amazing in the tight jacket, and that no one really lifts their arms up at a wedding anyway.

Following day I phoned Adam (after receiving the brides permission) to tell him I intended purchasing a jacket elsewhere as the one he’d provided simply didn’t fit.
Adam promptly phoned the bride and told her there’s always one person wants to be the star of the show!

On a follow up call Adam told me “it’s a numbers game” and they had too many suits out on hire that week.

When trying to resolve the shoe issue, as he didn’t have the correct sizes in stock, Adam suggested the groomsman took a pair which were too big and put tissue in the toes!

The grooms shirt was to have the cuff embroidered.
Adam had over two months notice for this, however on collection it wasn’t done.
Adam had ample time to inform us of this, but chose to let us find out on collection.
He then told us to drive to a shop in White Rose, Leeds and “tell them Adam sent you”.
The person he sent us to was on holiday that week.
What followed was three hugely stressful days trying to get the order completed before the wedding.
After numerous phone calls, texts and visits to the shop we got the order almost correct, four pairs of shoes and one waistcoat unresolved.
What should have been a straightforward process became a huge amount of unnecessary stress at a time when we really didn’t need it.
Our experience with Joshua Adams significantly overshadowed our wedding experience.
What made the situation worse was the way it was handled.
At no time during or after, was a genuine apology offered.
When a company makes multiple mistakes across seven wedding suits, the very least you expect is some acknowledgment of the inconvenience and stress they have caused.
Instead we were left feeling the problem was ours to deal with.

My ethos has always been to shop local and use independent businesses, however our journey with Joshua Adams has made me question this.
Honestly, I would give zero stars if that were possible. Its difficult to think of anything positive I can offer to balance the experience..

The quality of the suits were aIng, my son was skidding across the floor in them and they are still in one piece.

Ray and his team made the process so easy.

So impressed with the service we received, the suits were amazing and they went out of their way to help with my dad who had suffered a stroke! Reasonably priced, very friendly, know their stuff, and the suits were ready earlier than planned which made things so much easier!! Thanks again!

Fantastic customer service and flexibility.
Due to a sudden illness in my now husband we had to delay the suit fitting, they were fantastic in their flexibility and worked with us to ensure the whole party got what they need.
It made the whole experience easier to handle, I can't recommend them enough

We booked in with this company for suits over 2 weeks ago, I gave all suit measurements and rang to discuss we was coming from over 1 hr away so can we hire specific suits and we explained which suits we wanted to hire and which we wanted to buy this was also stated again in an email. It came to this week when I needed to check he has ordered them in before we come for are appointment so we wasn't wasting our time and he says yes all ordered coming in later today. I then ring back the same day later in the afternoon with 3 days to go before our appointment to check how much the hire would be for these suits to be told they don't hire our suit we picked out .... the women checks with manager and tells me Manager has just changed his mind out the blue with no notification to us and won't hire them out ! Really unprofessional to string people along like this and literally speak to them the same day and then let them down its clear they wasn't going to mention this until we travelled over 1hr away with 3 young children so thank god I rang again to speak to them AVOID IF YOU DONT WANNA BE MESSED ABOUT! Note to store do not mess people about its unnecessary and unfair you can not decide to say 1 thing 1 minite then 1 thing another that's unacceptable

We hired several suits, unfortunately one of the suits didn't fit (the groosman should of tried the suit on after we collected which is an error on our part) but when we went in to drop the suits off the response we got was "well its done now". The suit our groomsman was given was about 2 sizes too small (no way possible to put that much weight on in a small space of time, to the point he couldn't get them over his legs). Just save yourself any hassle in an already stressful time.

We originally saw the suit we bought somewhere else and a lot more expensive. We messaged Joshua Adams’s to see if they did the same suit to save us driving to newcastle. They responded quickly and confirmed they did. We ordered 10+ suit jackets & waistcoats and at a better price. Suits were all fitted professionally and ordered. Came into store about 3 weeks before our weddings. All in suite bags, clean and tidy. The only negative would be our details were written down wrong on our paperwork (names of people and emails/phone numbers) so we had to correct that before ordering but everything else was fine
