About
Picturesque gardens elegantly surround a magnificent Georgian house. This exquisite location features a licensed bar and offers luxurious accommodation, providing an ideal setting for relaxation and entertainment.
Nestled in the heart of the countryside, The Old Rectory is a stunning historical home, built in 1713 with stone reclaimed from a former Knights Templar site and the original Howell Manor. This Grade II listed property has a rich history, having served as a sanctuary for children evacuated from London during World War II and later as a rehabilitation centre for military personnel.
The Old Rectory offers a variety of picturesque spaces, each exuding its own unique charm. Set over two acres these gardens provide the perfect canvas to tailor your wedding or event, ensuring a memorable experience.
Enjoy exclusive access to the grounds for all weddings and events. The front garden boasts a park-like atmosphere, adorned with ancient trees, winding paths, and hidden gates leading to the 12th-century St. Oswald’s Church. The centrepiece is the Folly, designed by Arthur Ling, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Architects (1963-1964).
Illuminated at night, the Folly creates a magical setting for photography and relaxation. In the background of the formal garden, a giant fire pit with comfortable seating offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside and church, complemented by a majestic nighttime walk illuminated by festoon lighting.
Adjacent to the house, the Rose Garden features charming steps leading to a vibrant, aromatic area bustling with colour and delicate hedging. Adorned with festoon lighting, this enchantingspace is ideal for unwinding or serving canapés and sparkling drinks.
At the rear of the house, a spacious garden area is perfectly suited for a marquee or tipi, framed by a wall and pergola draped with climbing grapevines and honeysuckle. The picturesque church
backdrop adds a unique charm, especially during weddings.
The Old Rectory grounds can be customised to meet your every need, offering a variety of spaces for your event.
The Old Rectory offers parking for up to 30 cars and is ideally situated near local hotels and transport links. Additionally, there is space for up to 50 cars in the adjacent Orchard. We take pride in partnering with a range of local businesses specialising in event support, providing stunning marquees, majestic tipis, and locally sourced produce.
