Soughton Hall is a stunning stately home wedding venue located in Northop Hall, Flintshire, on the Cheshire and North Wales border. Blending boutique contemporary touches with its grand heritage, Soughton Hall offers the perfect setting for a timeless wedding.
Facilities and Capacity
Built in 1714 as a Bishop’s Palace, Soughton Hall was later transformed in the 1800s under the vision of Sir Charles Barry, the renowned architect behind the Houses of Parliament and Highclere Castle of Downton Abbey fame. Today, this beautifully restored estate can be exclusively yours, offering you and your guests the luxury of enjoying the hall and its gardens in complete privacy. With capacity for intimate gatherings of 20 to grand celebrations of up to 220, the venue features elegant event spaces, breathtaking gardens, and a permanent marquee. Licensed for civil ceremonies, Soughton Hall offers both indoor and outdoor settings, as well as the option of charming local churches for a traditional touch. Sixteen exquisite bedrooms are available within the hall itself, with additional accommodation for six guests in the delightful Top Lodge.

Blue and Gold | Celebrate in the grandeur of the Blue and Gold Room, where up to 100 guests can experience your ceremony in a space full of character and charm. Ideal for intimate wedding breakfasts of up to 54 guests, it also adapts effortlessly for evening celebrations. With its striking décor and abundant natural light, this room provides a truly stunning backdrop for unforgettable photos.
Secret Garden | Our outdoor ceremony space offers a beautiful view of Southon Hall and can accommodate seating for up to 104 guests, creating a memorable setting for your vows surrounded by open air and timeless charm.
Wedding Dining | Keep the ambiance flowing, while you indulge in your wedding breakfast menu. Our Garden room is perfect for celebrating with your loved ones on your special day.
Evening Celebrations | Complete with its own bar the garden room transforms for the evening with a dance floor, neon sign and plenty of space for dancing - our Garden Room sets the stage for a seamless transition into a night of elegance & joy.
Bedrooms | Our 16 bedrooms combine historic charm with modern comfort, many offering lovely views of the grounds. Each room provides a cozy, elegant retreat for your guests, making the stay as memorable as the celebration itself.
The Top Lodge | Perched at the top of the drive, The Top Lodge is a private retreat for up to 6 guests. The best day of our lives!
My wife and I got married at Soughton Hall on 19th June 2025 and wow, the day was nothing short of exceptional.
The first time I ever visited Soughton Hall, I wasn’t even engaged or with my now wife but I just knew I had to get married there. It was the venue I’d always dreamed of when I was imagining my wedding as a little girl.
The staff there are and always have been incredible. They are so attentive and nothing is too much trouble. It’s so obvious how much they care about their customers and the venue itself.
The day itself was perfect - I couldn’t fault a single thing. It was the best and happiest day of our lives and we could never thank the team at Soughton enough for making our wedding what it was.
If I could do it all again tomorrow, I would in a heartbeat. I would choose this venue time and time again. A thousand thank you’s will never be enough!

Simply Incredible!
If we had to use two words to describe our day at this fabulous venue, I would say 'simply incredible'.
We made memories we will never forget thanks to the team, and our guests were all blown away with how well everything came together! We were fortunate enough to book both Soughton Hall for the Ceremony and The Coach House for the Wedding Breakfast and evening party [held in the loft], which just worked so well.
I have seen many people hold their wedding breakfast in the marquee at the main house which is equally as stunning. Having both venues did however mean the estate was exclusive to our guests all day, even enabling them to stay over the night before [definitely worth it to get those celebrations kick started early!].
We found everything from the initial show arounds, planning, food tasting and finally the big day went so smoothly, we couldn't have asked for anything more. The wedding coordinators were all fabulous from start to finish, nothing was too much to ask for and the rest of the team provided a top notch service throughout!
Despite Storm Darragh doing it's best to try and ruin our plans, the team at Soughton Hall reassured us and made sure they had everything under control, even having a back up plan for any weather related challenges.
For anybody thinking of getting married here, I would highly recommend this place - you will not be disappointed. Thanks again to the team for everything they did - we will never forget it!

Wonderful Wedding
Attended here for my sisters wedding. Wedding was spectacular and the service was amazing. The food for the wedding breakfast was truly exceptional, or as my husband said "flawless". Evey guest complimented how beautiful the whole experience was, from start to finish.
The staff were very attentive, particular the morning staff who were present in the morning of the wedding and attended to all of our needs.
Each member of staff went above and beyond and the manager of Soughton was so personable, accommodating and lovely.
I wouldn't hesitate booking here for an overnight stay or another occasion. Thank you for making my sisters wedding so amazing

Exceptional Wedding venue with oustanding team of staff
I can’t begin to express our gratitude to all the team who made our Daughter and Son-in-law’s wedding such a memorable celebration. Whilst Soughton Hall is the most stunning location to host a wedding. Itis not the beautiful gardens or exquisite character buildings that make it the perfect choice for your special day, but the absolutely amazing team of staff who work tirelessly to exceed your expectations.
We would like to thank everyone for taking the time and effort to surpass even of highest expectations. From our wedding planners, to the team who set up the Coach House,those who supported us to prepare our bride and wedding party, the chefs, waiters, waitresses, bar staff, receptionists and maintenance team ( who found our daughter’s lost wedding ring before we left the morning after the wedding).
Every single person involved was professional, friendly, helpful and placed our wedding guests at the heart of their practice. They delivered on every point and we can’t thank them or recommend them highly enough. Don’t look any further if you want a day to remember without stress and filled with happiness, care and quality: 10/10

When the day arrived, everything went smoothly with no hiccups. Erin and her team ensured everything went as plannned. Our guests felt the same way and they had an amazing time. Food was incredible and our furbaby got to even stay and join us for the whole thing.

Best day ever!
The venue itself is beautiful. It's also really well kept and looked after and feels really inviting. This felt extra magical for us at Christmas with the garland lining the staircases, massive Christmas trees, and open fires. The bedrooms are also so beautifully done, our bridal party had trouble picking their favourite to stay in when they came to the open day.
The staff are also so friendly and warm, from housekeeping and bar staff to the coordinators, there wasn't anyone that wasn't willing to help with any of our requests and nobody was too busy to stop and chat with us to welcome us to the venue.
The food here is also amazing! so many of our guests have commented on how tasty everything was and how generous the portions were.
A special thanks to the team that got us over the line! Erin, Chloe, and Cheryl have had to deal with many unusual requests but were so accommodating and ensured our day went as smoothly as possible in both the run up and on the day itself. They've been so friendly, and have even allowed us the opportunity to go through our wedding album at the venue once we'd got all of our photos back which was really special. We couldn’t recommend Soughton enough.
Honestly wish we could do it all again! Thank you all so much!
Perfect in every way
When we first sat down with Erin, everything was out of this world, the way you understood exactly what we wanted and made sure it happened, it is something we are so grateful for. There isn't enough words to express how amazing you have been.
Chloe you have been amazing through out, your communication skills are second to none, which has reassured us all the way. The way you handled everything we asked with such grace & care really helped us feel at ease throughout everything. You really are a credit to Soughton Hall.
Cheryl... where to start! words can not describe how amazing you are! The way you looked after Jake (especially his bacon butty on leaving when he couldn't stomach breakfast) and I on the day was so perfect. When we say we cant thank you enough we cant you were incredible. Everything from the start to the very end when we were leaving the venue. Just incredible Thank You.
To all the staff behind the scenes, your manners, attention to details and friendly faces made the day perfect. Jake has asked the guy looking after the wines, gets a very special mention as his manners and his service were always brought with a smile.
And to the chefs, WOW! the food was insane.
It is a day we will cherish forever, and it would not have been this way without each and everyone of you and how hard you all worked.

Holmes Wedding - 29/03/2024
Myself and my husband held our wedding on Good Friday at Soughton Hall after booking with a coordinator in January 2023.
When we first visited on one the open days we fell in love with the venue instantly. It was our top choice of venue due to location and size. Best way to describe Soughton Hall is Downton Abbey meets classic modern British interior. Soughton itself was beautifully presented, spacious, homely and elegant. The main hall was spectacular and the accommodation was incredible. The garden room was a blank canvas which allowed us a lot of creative freedom. The staff couldn’t go above anymore and were able to answer all of our initial enquiries.
Once we had decided that Soughton was our venue things were great from the get go. The communication from the venue was timely and professional and key dates (tasting menu, final details), were managed perfectly.
Once we met our coordinator Erin, me and my husband knew we were in safe hands. With a wealth of knowledge and experience we felt we could trust Erin implicitly. We clicked instantly and felt reassured. Unfortunately for us, we had a very tricky run-up to our big day and things got stressful - but Erin couldn’t have supported us more and did literally EVERYTHING possible to help us. Without Erin, our big day wouldn’t have happened the way it did, we are forever grateful.
On the day, things went so smoothly (minus some timing issues - bank holiday traffic), but the whole venue managed this without little disruption and without us paying too much attention to it. The rooms were set up amazingly and most things were exactly what we had envisaged from day one of planning. The whole day went off without any problems.
From the tasting menu to the evening buffet the food was Devine! We loved everything and our guests were so impressed! We can’t wait to hopefully return for more!
We drew the evening to a close a very, very happy newest married couple.
Getting married at Soughton was everything we could have asked for. The service, the food, and most importantly the staff is what makes Soughton Hall a top wedding venue. 10/10! Our only regret is that we can’t do it all over again!

Wedding at The Coach House & Overnight Stay at Soughton Hall
We made full use of the whole estate, with the bridal party staying in the lodge the night before, wedding in the coach house and then staying in the main hall with our friends and family. The food was exquisite, from the wedding breakfast through to the breakfast the morning after.
Every detail of the venue is stunning. Thank you Soughton Hall for helping us create our dream wedding we will never forget.
