Broadoaks honest review of our wedding and the time leading up to the event …
In our experience, our wedding at Broadoaks was overshadowed by significant stress throughout the 7–8 month planning process.
We had a new coordinator on average every 3 weeks and 6 days, resulting in a lack of continuity. Various assurances were provided to us in writing by members of staff regarding services offered to us however when we later asked for these agreed points to be reflected in our contract, the manager, Sian, stated she had no knowledge of them. We retained written evidence of these communications and when presented to her she would use terms like “hearsay” to written evidence she’d asked for. We were very lucky we had been warned by couple’s mid planning to document everything and we would strongly encourage other couples to document everything if your wedding if is already in the planning process.
During the final two weeks before our wedding ( after being told staff weren’t allowed to talk to us to sort the final wedding plans ), we were threatened with cancellation of our wedding (on multiple occasions ) because despite having a contract from a co-ordinator we were finally happy with, Sian then cancelled it before we could sign it and changed all the terms back to a basic contract. After days of e mails, we finally signed a contract we were somewhat happy with to save the big day from being ruined (with only a week or so until our wedding) We were then informed despite discrepancies in invoices which we had queried that final payment must be made regardless of balance being wrong or our wedding would be cancelled by them yet again, strong arming us into paying without it being correct (days before our big day ). No bride or groom should ever have experienced this. We had asked for a very clear breakdown of these balances, but for whatever reason could not receive them. We did receive some form of balance breakdown, but the totals never amounted to the final invoice balance - hence the queries.
Very late in the planning process, we discovered that someone we’d never had a meeting with would be running our wedding day. The day before the wedding, we were informed they did not have time to host the planned Mr & Mrs games, resulting in our family stepping in at short notice. Plus other issues re setting up/ decor etc.
Throughout the final few days and day before, we were repeatedly reassured that Sian would not be present on our wedding day/ day before and that she was not rostered to work. Despite this, she was present when we arrived. This caused me huge distress and was very intimidating knowing her presence at the venue, and I was worried if we would see her & how she would impact our time there. This level of stress and anxiety a couple should never need to experience on such a life changing joyful day.
On the day itself/ day before
- Incorrect music was played, including my aisle song starting incorrectly/wrong song.
- Evening staff appeared intoxicated.
- Guests were incorrectly advised that payments had not been made, which caused more embarrassment. (proof was on hand)
- The food served did not reflect the tasting experience (we have photographic evidence of both and would advise couples to document theirs).
- the £1,000 holding fee they take should only be processed as a pre-authorisation. In our case, it was processed as a sale and required repeated follow-up to resolve and get refunded.
- The following morning, breakfast service was limited to a one-hour window; food was cold and items ran out.
- room issues .
We also believe there were GDPR concerns involving personal information.
This review only summarises part of our experience. There is far more detail than can reasonably be included here, and we are fortunate to hold written, photographic and supporting evidence relating to the above.
We are currently pursuing the matter formally and legally. We would advise couples to proceed carefully and ensure all agreements are fully documented in writing as I know we are not an isolated caseBroadoaks Country House's reply:

Sent on 20/05/2025The most perfect venue!!
I was absolutely blown away by our wedding day at Broadoaks and the venue will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Every corner of the building and gardens were beautiful and such happy, special memories were created here on our wedding day and I can’t wait to come back and visit on anniversary’s and special occasions.
All the staff were incredible and so helpful, the day ran so smooth and I can honestly say it was flawless.
I would definitely recommend Broadoaks for other couples wanting to get married – I especially loved how our guests could stay over and it meant we could extend our wedding over a couple of days and it wasn’t just over in a flash. 10/10, just perfect!! -

From the moment we set eyes on Broadoaks we knew it was the place for us. Somewhere breathtaking as you entered the drive, just the right size for an intimate wedding of our nearest and dearest for not just the wedding day, but day before. Everyone loved their rooms and my particular favourite part of the venue is the music room. The orangery worked well for both our ceremony and reception- beautiful with the sun shining through and magical as it got dark with the fairy lights. Issy our wedding co- ordinator was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and we had complete faith in her and the team that the day would go well. The day was beyond even our wildest dreams, the weather was kind too, showcasing Broadoaks in all its glory! Our guests - day and night had an amazing time and loved the venue. It was faultless, perfect , magical. The food was delicious too. It was a day of joyous memories that we cannot thank Broadoaks enough for helping us create.Broadoaks Country House's reply:

We absolutely fell in love with Broadoaks the moment we saw it! The staff have all been wonderful! I don’t have a bad word to say about any of them! We had 2 day exclusive hire, the food on both days was amazing! Issie was an amazing wedding coordinator! I didn’t once feel stressed or anxious about the day! Would highly recommend Broadoaks for the venue, staff and the value for money! -

I cannot rate broadoaks highly enough! Everything was perfect for our 3 night stay and 2 day wedding event. Brilliant co ordination from Mel and the staff are incredibly hard workers. The venue was just perfect and all the guests loved their individually decorated rooms! The spa baths are great. The food was brilliant and the breakfasts are wonderful. It really was the best day of our lives at Broadoaks- everything was just perfect and the house and grounds are just stunning!! Thank you all so much. -

Beautiful wedding venue that welcomes dogs
We had an intimate civil ceremony at Broadoaks County House Hotel in December 2022, and everything was spot on. We couldn’t of asked for more from our wonderful wedding planner Viki, she was on hand throughout the day, as well as the weeks running up to the wedding day.
One of the main reasons for choosing Broadoaks is their acceptance of dogs.. we have two Golden Retrievers and it was so important to us to have them with us throughout the day, and they were made so welcome by all the staff 💕

The best thing I did when I was looking for a venue was seeing Broadoaks on Facebook. Joanna and Mel did a fabulous job of organising our wedding. The venue is just amazing. The great thing about the venue is that you have it all to yourselves. Bedrooms are stunning and the food is outstanding. We cant recommend this venue enough. We had the best day and the weather was amazing for December. Thank you Joanna (little Jo) and Mel xx -

The Most Magical Day of our lives. "After all this time? Always"
Well where do we begin... There is no words to describe how incredible our experience has been with Broadoaks Country House, would give it 1000 stars if we could. From the very beginning of our journey from driving up the amazing driveway to the 2 days we got to spend there celebrating our love and coming together with our closest family and friends and of course our beloved dogs. We couldn't have wished for anything better.
I think we had contact with each and every one of the events team whilst on our journey with them and not a bad word to say about any of them. A BIG shout out to Mel though especially, who was our actual wedding coordinator of our special day...You were just amazing! And we couldn't have asked for anyone better you were very professional but personable at the same time and it really felt like she was a part of our wedding rather than just that person behind the scenes so thank you from the bottom of our hearts all the support and chats we will be forever grateful. Another Thank you to all the rest of the staff at the hotel aswell you all were just absalute diamonds of humans. We were made to feel like Lady and Man of the manor and nothing was no trouble at all.
Also the venue itself and the saroundings couldn't have been better with plenty of space for all our guests to spread out and mingle throughout our 2 day exclusive stay. On top of this all our guests loved their stay at the hotel and the rooms they all fell in love with instantly. Everyone has been coming back to us saying how homely and welcoming and that it really didn't feel like a hotel more like a home sweet home environment.
If we could go back to that day and get married all over again, we genuinely wouldn't changed a single thing ( not even the weather)
We already can not wait to come back and visit many times in the future also to stay. You are in our eyes the best hotel in the whole of Windermere.
Broadoaks we will be forever very fond of you.
