About
The Museum of the Home is a wedding venue located in the City of London, England. The 300-year old Georgian almshouses and famous gardens are ensconced in the vibrant urban surroundings of Hoxton. You can plan each stage of your wedding day at a number of indoor and outdoor spaces, from heritage sites and scenic gardens to contemporary galleries, all within one historic venue.
Facilities and Capacity
To-be-weds can curate their dream day at The Museum of the Home, from intimate elopements and micro weddings to large-scale outdoor receptions for 250 guests. The Museum offers a range of spaces with traditional cosy atmospheres or light and airy spaces for personalisation, all of which are licenced for civil ceremonies. The picturesque grounds offer ample opportunities for photographs, from the tranquil gardens to the Georgian exterior of the original almshouses.
The Chapel: (capacity 20) features checkered flooring and high ceilings and provides a classic, elegant backdrop in which to say 'I do.'
The Georgian Suite: (capacity 40) Host a boutique wedding breakfasts and evening receptions can be held in The Georgian Room, a charming space characterised by traditional panelling, wood floors and a rustic fire grate. Ambient lighting is provided courtesy of elegant chandeliers and candles that adorn long banquet tables suited to fine dining. The adjacent Plain English Kitchen provides a fully equipped domestic kitchen for catering.
The Pavilion: (capacity 60) is full of natural light thanks to long patio doors looking over the planted Gardens Through Time, you'll have a stunning backdrop as you say your vows. Have exclusive access to the Herb Garden after yor ceremony for toasts and photos, while the room is transformed for your intimate wedding reception.
The Studio: (capacity 80) is a perfect space for personalisation, this space contains pillars, coloured lights and a separate lobby area leading to the Gardens Through Time. Fill it with flowers, drape the ceiling or adorn the alcoves with fairy lights - the Studio allows you to put your stamp on your wedding venue.
Garden Atrium: (capacity 150) By day this is our Museum Reception, but by night this could be your ideal skylit annexe to dine and dance with friends and family.
Services Offered
The events team welcomes couples seeking an unusual and historic destination for their city wedding. The in-house coordinator collaborates with prospective newlyweds to bring their ideas and requests to life from your first enquiry, visit and on the day assistance.
We are a dry-hire venue so are able to offer tables, chairs and some extras to your day, depending on your guest numbers. The Museum has a carefully curated list of preferred suppliers whom we can recommend and we'll be more than happy to share this list with you.
History
The original almshouses were constructed in 1714 and 200 years later, the home and gardens were established as The Geffrye Museum. In the 1990s, contemporary exhibition and learning spaces were added and the gardens were opened to the public. The Museum of the Home is a charity and all profits from venue hire go directly to supporting the museum’s cultural programme, education, and outreach projects.
