Gwydir Castle is a historic and atmospheric wedding venue tucked away in the foothills of Snowdonia in Conwy, Wales. This beautiful Tudor house has a rich history and is regarded as one of the finest houses of its kind in Wales. Lovingly restored by its current owners, Peter Welford and Judy Corbett, the castle is a romantic, magical space for all sorts of weddings.

Facilities and Capacity

Gwydir Castle is licensed to hold civil ceremonies, and couples can say 'I do' in the ground-floor hall, surrounded by log fires and flickering candles. Nearlyweds can also enjoy the 10 acres of Grade 1 listed gardens, celebrating with loved ones while peacocks roam freely. The formal Renaissance gardens feature 16th-century arches, terraces, and beautiful yew and cedar trees. Elsewhere on the grounds, the Old Dutch Garden features a tranquil fountain, and the Knot Garden, laid out in the shape of a rose, offers an extra touch of romance. The carefully restored grounds exude atmosphere and charm, and the garden's glorious views offer nearlyweds a stunning backdrop for their special day.

Services Offered

Peter and Judy work with couples to craft a wedding plan that meets their preferences. As well as hosting ceremonies, the early-Tudor ground-floor hall is available for a champagne reception. Afterwards, guests can spill out onto the grounds and mingle in the ancient gardens. The space is a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life, offering a rare and memorable experience.

Although Gwydir Castle is primarily a family home, some accommodation is available on the property and elsewhere on the grounds. The two guest bedrooms inside the castle have been tastefully furnished with comfortable four-poster beds and antique furniture. Self-catering accommodation is available in the charming gatehouse on the castle's grounds.

One day never forgotton

We were married at Gwydir Castle on 22nd April 2006. The castle looked stunning and the scenery is breath-taking. The owners of the castle couldn't have been more helpful and the caterers, Blas Ar Fwyd, were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble.
We had a perfect day and Gwydir was the perfect venue.

beautiful venue, helpful staff, fantastic catering- fairytail wedding.

We got married at Gwydir Castle in Sept 2003 and had a fantastic day. The venue is superb - caters for 70 people max- we had 60 and it felt really intimate. The ceremony was candle lit with a big open fire, but despite the cool autumn weather was really warm inside. The local registrar Dave Rees put us at ease and we made the ceremony really personal with poetry readings. We booked the venue for the whole day and had 30 people for the wedding breakfast and the caterers (Blas Ar Fwydd) were fantastic - huge portions and excellent quality and service. The owners of the castle were really helpful and met all of our requirements and helped us to source local suppliers and a nearby evening venue.

The grounds are beautiful and provide many interesting backdrops for the photos complete with peacocks!
I stayed at the castle the night before the wedding with my cheif bridesmaid which made getting ready fun and my husband and i also stayed at the castle for our wedding night which made it even more special - great antique four-poster bed and huge en-suite bathroom, then a great breakfast the next morning.
I would highly recomend the castle for a unique and intimate civil wedding which will provide you with many beautiful memories!

Best wishes,
