Matthew Slater: Sketch Artist offers a VERY UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT take on your wedding day to help you remember the wonderful occasion alongside your other photos or videos.

Who am I?

I am a professional Graphic Designer/Illustrator on my second year of offering this service. To date, I have completed 10 successful weddings/events and my diary is filling up for this year!

What do I do?

On your special day I’ll draw anything I see: the venue, the ceremony, table decorations, people, bands, food, cakes, floral arrangements, the bar, people dancing, dogs, horses, etc.

What is your style?

Quirky, fun, light-hearted, characterful! A lively mix of Quentin Blake meets Ronald Searle. I work quickly and intuitively - this brings my work to life in a very free and expressive style.

How do I work?

Using an iPad or a sketchbook with pen/ink/watercolour, I can potentially create around 50 unique images of your special day. I work fast, and what I draw on the day is what you get.

Are my sketches ‘posed’ and do I work from photographs?

They are not 'posed for' caricatures or portraits and I don’t work from photos. I work unobtrusively, moving around the venue watching, observing and sketching. I can be at the venue for up to 12 hours making use of as much time there as I can.

What is unique about what I do?

Everything. It may be a bold claim, but I don't know anyone who does what I do. What I draw is for YOU, the client, it is not for the guests. I am not an entertainer, traditional artist, or caricaturist as such. I would call myself a reportage illustrator.

What do you get from me?

Everything I draw on the day: all original sketches, all images digitally, a framed montage… you can decide how to add them to your other collections of memories.

How do I do it?

It's just what I can do and how I work best - sketching live - and because of this freestyle way of working, I charge by the day, not the hour.

Please note: I have a full-time job as a Graphic Designer and so, unfortunately, I'm not able to take on day bookings during the week. A late afternoon onwards booking from, say 4pm, may be possible, dependant on time/travel from Milton Keynes. An evening only, say from 7pm, is not really enough time to do my work justice.
