Lakeland Wedding Art, in Grange Over Sands, Cumbria, is a live illustrator artist called Jo who creates bespoke mini-portraits of wedding guests.
Based in South Lakeland, Jo paints in-the-moment illustrations with speed and care and to a high standard. Guests are invited to visit the Artist's Table for a speedy live portrait. Each painting is made using watercolour and ink and sealed in a clear sleeve so that guests can take their portrait home with them as a unique memento of your special day.
Jo has years of experience as a professional artist working in and around the beautiful Lake District. She's warm and friendly, loves meeting folks and chatting with the person she's sketching. However, they won't need to hang around too long; a quick photo ensures Jo captures the image so that your guests can mingle and enjoy the wedding while she finishes painting.
Services Offered
There are three packages for you to choose from, including more intimate packages for elopements and vow renewals, and beyond that, Jo invites you to contact with any requirements you have; she completely tailors her service to your wedding. Each portrait aims to create the character of that person in a single sketch, and in the same way, she'll work with you to ensure that the service is the perfect addition to everything else you've planned for your wedding.
Additional pieces she offers, depending on the package, include a portrait of your wedding cake and a large portrait of the happy couple, which will contain more detail and will be posted to you after the wedding. As Jo loves natural elements in art, she can also include your floral decorations in your personal portrait.
Live wedding illustration is fun, tasteful, entertaining, arty, a wonderful talking point, and creates fantastic memories for years.

Live wedding illustrations
We had planned the live illustrations as a surprise during the cocktail hour: something to entertain our guests while we were away having photographs taken, as well as a special keepsake for them to take home. Jo’s process of photographing guests and then working from those images was ideal. It allowed everyone to continue enjoying the celebration while giving her the opportunity to ensure that every guest was included and received an illustration.
Jo arrived before the ceremony so that she could be completely set up and ready when our guests entered the cocktail hour. While the ceremony was taking place, she also beautifully depicted the front of Lindeth Fell, (which we had particularly hoped she might capture if time allowed) and our cake and table display.
The illustrations were a wonderful addition to our wedding and gave our guests something personal and lasting by which to remember the day. They capture everyone’s personalities and emotions in such a lovely, distinctive style, and our guests were delighted with them. We are so pleased that we chose Jo, and we would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful, creative and memorable addition to their celebration.

Hi! I'm Jo! Also known as Jo Ellen of Lakeland Wedding Art. I create live portraits of your guests as well as of elements of the day, be it the wedding cake, the flowers, even the family dog!
I'm excited to create some truly unique portraits of your special day. As a trained artist who's made art her career for the past 10 years, I believe that my enthusiasm really shows best when I'm talking to others about my art and showing them what I can do. In doing this I can create a really lovely experience for each person who's having their portrait done, chatting to them all the while and showing them how these creations come together seemingly out of nowhere!
I'm an outdoorsy girl, and in my home near the Lake District I love going out to sketch in nature. You'll often find your wedding floral decor hidden in any artwork I make for you (should you want floral decor including!), adding a really personal touch.
