26 Jun, 2026Our Real Wedding
We got married on the 26th June at the Hospitium in York. It was a magical day, albeit swelteringly hot! We had 46 of us in total, with just family attending. The Hitched app was really useful for finding suppliers and also for managing our guest list, seating plan and wedding website. We had opted for the Hospitium as it’s a stunning venue and set in the beautiful museum garden in the heart of York.
They offer a “whirlwind” package for couples who book a date within 6 months, which is what we went with. The team were so helpful and friendly and made the planning process easy and simple. Within the package, you get the venue, their decorations, catering, flowers, cake and DJ. It was so nice having all of this sorted and not having to try and coordinate multiple suppliers, and because they all know the venue so well they knew what would work best. Additionally, the museum gardens close at 6 pm so we then had all the gardens to ourselves for photos and outdoor games.
The catering was Bradshaws of York and the food was incredible (all my guests commented how good it was!) Our cake was from Appletree Cakery and despite the 30°c + heat still looked beautiful and tasted delicious. There was plenty of cake, so we have some in the freezer now, too!
Continue reading »Flowers were from wedding blossoms of York and were spot on colour-wise and looked so stunning. They also did the foliage wraps for the pillars and stair ledge which ties it all together. For the tables, the flowers were in glass jars, which gave a cute cottage feel and were also eco-friendly, which I liked.
The DJ was from Night Owls and again, despite the heat, did an amazing job, and none of us wanted to leave the dance floor! All of the staff who helped to run the day were calm, friendly and professional. We had a few issues due to the heat, but they kept everything running smoothly, and the day was amazing. We went with Julia Healey as our photographer- we met her at the Hospitium wedding Fayre, and she’s just lovely! Julia knows the venue well, so she knows the best places to get pictures and where there is great lighting. She was absolutely amazing on the day, again working in the incredibly hot weather, and got some magical shots. Julia is super kind and really easy to get along with, so it was just like having another friend there on the day with us. We got all the photos we wanted without feeling like we were spending ages and missing out on enjoying the day, and the rest of the candid shots felt natural without feeling like we were being “watched” all day.
As we had a short turnaround, I got my dress “off the peg” from Wed2b, and it was probably the quickest and easiest part of the whole wedding planning! I then went to Thimbelina in York for the tailoring, and they did an amazing job! I was so happy with how it turned out, and my bustle never broke! My bridesmaids' dresses were also from Wed2b- but these have to be ordered, so don’t leave it too late! We were able to rush order them in 8 weeks, and they turned out great.
I did my own makeup, having been for a lesson at bobbi brown.
For my hair, I used Bridal by Kezia. Kezia is really lovely, put us all at ease in the morning, and our hair turned out lovely. My updo lasted all night and was super comfy (big bonus) even despite dancing in the heat.
Overall, we had an incredible day. The Hospitium is the perfect venue (and all the money goes to York Museums Trust to help keep things running and open to the public) . We had everything we wanted without any fuss or stress, which meant we could actually enjoy our day to the maximum and celebrate what really mattered.
