Unprofessional and disappointing experience
We had a signed booking form and contract with Sophie Lauren Productions for our wedding videography. Despite this, on 10 November 2025 at around 8am, Sophie informed us that she was “no longer able to take on [our] wedding date” because “another couple has just booked in for a wedding the day before yours”.
This was over a week after we had signed the contract. At no stage before or after signing did she mention that another couple was also being considered for the same date, nor that our booking was not secure. In her own words, she admitted, “I genuinely didn’t think the other couple were going ahead, but they’ve just sent through their deposit this morning.” She later wrote, “I realise I should’ve made that clearer, and I’m so sorry for not doing so.”
The timing alone raised serious concerns — after over a week of silence, Sophie only mentioned this supposed double booking immediately after I emailed to say we now had access to the payment link and were ready to pay the deposit. It seemed remarkably “convenient” that the other couple had suddenly sent their deposit that very same morning, before 8am on a Monday, when she had never previously mentioned that our date was being discussed with anyone else. Make it make sense....! Was it that they've just booked in, or was Sophie simply unorganised and would rather take the booking closer to her.
Communication throughout was a bit slow, but I was patient. During this time, Sophie continued to discuss practical details such as supplier meals and allergies, further reinforcing our understanding that the booking was secure.
To make matters worse, she later admitted, “I’ve just realised a rather significant oversight on my part… I completely forgot to include the cost for travel in the initial quote,” adding £150 in travel expenses only after the contract had been signed.
This experience demonstrated poor communication, a lack of transparency, and an absence of professional integrity. A signed contract should represent a confirmed booking, not one that can be withdrawn the moment another couple pays first.
Couples should proceed with extreme caution and ensure every term — including booking confirmation, travel costs, and exclusivity of the date — is explicitly stated in writing before trusting this supplier with their wedding.
