The William Cecil was the only venue we needed to look at. It had such beautifully kept grounds to accommodate what was our outdoor wedding (in May), and up to the last second they were so communicative about possible alternatives if the weather turned and it needed to be moved indoors for the ceremony to take place. The staff were a delight to work with, most notably Amy, our planner, and Fran, who coordinated the latter half of the day. They helped so much to guide us through the day when moving for the reception, speeches, to going inside for the evening and dances, etc. They were always on call throughout the planning process if we had any questions or concerns, and it really helped to take the stress off our shoulders to know they were so professional and easy to talk to. The rooms were lovely and the local setting on Stamford is something our guests still talk about to this day. The William Cecil and its amenities really helped us to not worry about the decorations, as already so much was done for us by it's wonderful layout, that we could really focus on putting our personal stamp on the day, and leave wonderful lasting memories for everyone including ourselves. Amy was brilliant too about suggesting suppliers that they have worked with so that we weren't having to worry about sourcing all of that ourselves. The suppliers too were such amazing people to be working with on the day, and it couldn't have gone better. Stamford Flowers really heard us when we were putting our orders in and knew just how to go the extra mile with suggestions, while being easy to talk to and calming. Michaela from Boho Bridal was a fantastic recommendation too, and another local supplier which made it come together much better. Again, everyone helped to listen to what we wanted and knew how to elevate it or link it all together, while not stifling our ideas. We felt so supported throughout and we couldn't have asked for it to go any better. A real testament to the William Cecil wedding team! Edward Sent on 20/04/2026Amazing wedding venue and package, couldn't be happier!
We booked a New Year's Eve wedding package at the William Cecil. This included all sorts of fun extras which rolled our wedding and a New Year's Eve party into one big celebration that, for us, felt like truly excellent value for money.
The venue and all the spaces speak for themselves when you visit. We immediately connected with the refined but warm and welcoming country house aesthetic throughout. Around Christmas and NYE the place is especially festive and cosy, and looks amazing in photos!
The dedicated spaces we used were the Exeter Gallery and the Burghley Room. Both spaces are tastefully finished and furnished but allow plenty of room for personalising with your own decorations. If like us you're getting married around Christmas, there are already plenty of festive decorations around; these can of course be moved or stored away, but we were more than happy to keep them as they were!.
We were given the option to hire the entire venue for exclusive use, which made the whole day feel more intimate, even though we had a full 60 guests during the day. Although we had clear skies and sunshine all day, it was a chilly one, so during the drinks reception our guests chose to filter out between the lounge, bar and conservatory. While our guests stayed inside all day, we did sneak out during the drinks reception to make the most of the grounds, which still show splendidly in photographs in winter (especially during ‘golden hour’!)
Another reason we chose the William Cecil was the availability and quality of accommodation. With our celebrations going on into the wee hours and with taxis likely being very busy, we wanted our guests to have the option of a night’s rest on site (not to mention the delicious buffet breakfast the next morning!). There are ~26 rooms available with a good range of sizes and rates. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful when it came to finalising all the details and making sure everyone was comfortable. Our guests all loved their rooms, and the room we had for the honeymoon suite (the Verrio Suite) was a show-stopper!
Amy, the Weddings and Events Manager, worked with us across the ~18months leading up to the big day, and she did an absolutely amazing job of it. Although I think one or two of our emails got lost in shared inboxes, Amy and her colleagues were always super helpful over the phone and we had two full planning meetings (one via Zoom six months before and one in-person three months before) to iron out all the necessary details at each stage.
We had a few late changes, but Amy and the team happily accommodated these, and welcomed the one or two unique ideas we brought to the occasion as well. They were also happy for us to do a few things to make the day more accessible for some of our guests, for example by letting us take photos throughout the venue to put together a visual story, and allowing us to temporarily adapt their toilet signage to include facility descriptions. All our vendors said they found Amy and her colleagues a pleasure to work with as well.
On the day the events team, led by Maddy, did a fantastic job. They were all super friendly and helpful throughout, assisting guests with whatever they needed, checking in with us as a couple, and adjusting the timeline slightly to suit the mood of the evening. The food and drink included in the package were excellent, and our guests were all very happily fed and refreshed throughout the day. We chose to build on the base catering part of our package a little by adding some choice to the menu; well worth the small additional cost. There was a great selection available at the bar as well… don’t miss out on their mulled wine! -

We had such a fantastic wedding day at the William Cecil. It was the first venue we looked at and we quickly knew it was where we wanted to get married. The venue is beautifully situated and we were lucky to have great weather to have our ceremony in the pretty gardens. The alternative ceremony room indoors also would have been great. The staff were so friendly and everything so well organised. Accommodation is of high standard and were able to book out all rooms for our wedding night for our guests. The food also exceeded our expectations. Our guests commented on how much of a great venue it was. We were so pleased with how the day went. -

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue for our wedding. From the moment we booked until the end of our special day, everything was handled with care and professionalism. The booking process was seamless, and the team was incredibly helpful, always willing to answer our questions and accommodate our requests. (There was a lot)
On the day of the wedding, the venue was absolutely stunning. We had full use of the entire space, allowing us to tailor every part of our day exactly how we envisioned it. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, and their attention to detail made a world of difference.
The only minor challenge we faced was that the wedding planner worked part-time, which meant we had to juggle our schedules a bit to fit in appointments. However, they were always very flexible and did their best to accommodate us whenever possible, so it didn’t affect our overall experience.
From the beautiful decor to the excellent facilities, our guests were all raving about how gorgeous the venue was. We truly felt like we had the venue all to ourselves, giving us privacy and an intimate atmosphere that made the day feel even more special.
If you're looking for a venue that offers not only a great location but also a team that genuinely cares about making your day perfect, this is it. We Highly recommend! -

The most special and well run day!
We had our wedding at the William Cecil Hotel in May 2024. What an amazing day we had!
Firstly, Amy and her team are absolutely amazing and were so helpful throughout the whole planning process, responding to emails promptly, making necessary adjustments and on the day they were just brilliant.
The venue is stunning. All the rooms are finished to an amazing standard, the bridal suite in particular is a sight to behold! We got married outside on the lawns, and luckily the weather was perfect so it looked even more stunning.
The food is brilliant as well, we had the ham hock terrine, roasted chicken, and fruit pavlova. It was delicious and all our guests thought so as well!
We could not recommend the William Cecil Hotel enough, friendly staff, a stunning venue and just all round good vibes. We’re so lucky we found this venue, it was everything we wanted!

Amy and the staff at the William Cecil looked after everything. The suppliers they recommended fulfilled all of the requirements seamlessly. -

The venue is stunning, full of character and charm. In a great location in the beautiful town of Stamford. The team are brilliant and enabled us to personalise the wedding to us, our tastes and ideas. The food was delicious and the highest quality. The same can be said for the drinks! Guests commented it was the best wedding they had ever been to. We had the most perfect day and couldn’t be happier! The bridal suite is just WOW! Can’t fault anything about the venue, we have nothing but praise and wish we could do it all over again!
