Please be cautious about booking this venue for your wedding if you have people with serious dietary requirements as Hornsbury Mill’s staff knowledge of this is non-existent and they are not transparent about their lack of ability to accommodate dietary requirements.
In May 2025, we booked Hornsbury Mill as our wedding venue for August 2026. My maid of honour has coeliac disease, so I wanted to make sure the venue we picked would be safe for coeliacs (alongside any other dietary requirements, of which we had a few). Zoe told me that Hornsbury Mill could accommodate to anything.
In every meeting we had in the lead up to the wedding, I stressed how important this was. I was reassured each time that it was going to be fine.
Despite this, Hornsbury Mill’s knowledge of coeliac disease and the effects of cross contamination were non-existent and my maid of honour ended up being unwell after experiencing gluten exposure at the wedding breakfast and had to go home and miss out on the wedding reception. I found out that at the wedding breakfast, she was almost served the regular meal until she double checked that it was gluten free, after which she was brought out a different plate with the meal containing ‘no gluten’ flag in it.
I also found out that one of my guests with a dairy free requirement was served a regular dairy meal and had started to eat it before being brought out a meal with the ‘no dairy’ flag in it.
After my maid of honour went home, evening food was served and the layout of this was appalling. Gluten free bread and regular bread right next to each other, with no utensils or tongs (??). The bread also had the smallest ‘no gluten’ flag in it and nothing else to indicate that this had to be kept completely separate. There was no separate station for her butter, bacon, or hash browns which meant that people would butter their knives, use them on normal bread and put them back covered in gluten. It also meant that people would be grabbing hash browns and bacon with their hands after grabbing their normal bread, once again cross contaminating all the food. It is ridiculous that Hornsbury Mill did not realise how much of a serious cross-contamination risk this created.
Gluten free food + any accompanying sides such as butter, bacon etc. needs to be on a completely different table/station with its own utensils always to avoid cross contamination, or it needs to be served separately as a meal rather than buffet style.
Even though this incident was flagged to the venue straight away, nothing was learned for breakfast the next day as once again the normal and gluten free bread were right next to each other, all the utensils were shared and there was only one toaster which once again creates a significant cross-contamination risk.
We met with the venue the morning after to discuss this, they initially did not take accountability and we had to show photo proof of the evening and morning buffets and confirm seven times that my maid of honour didn’t eat anything else for them to ultimately admit fault. When I said they need to train up their staff to care about people’s dietary requirements, especially when it’s an auto immune disease, the head chef said he ‘cannot make the staff care’ - shocking. His arrogance and demeanour was incredibly unpleasant. They also mentioned that their restaurant menu states that they cannot guarantee there won’t be any cross contamination, but this was never communicated to us when discussing wedding catering. They conducted an investigation on what could’ve caused this with no probable cause and just said that they are being more transparent with their customers now (which they should’ve been from the beginning but better late than never…). I had to chase this out of them, they were not forthcoming themselves with the investigation results.
This completely tainted our wedding day which is a shame as the day had been amazing up until that point. We feel uncomfortable going back when one of the main reasons we booked it was so that we could return on our anniversary every year. -

Hornsbury Mill was an excellent venue for our wedding. From start to finish they could not accommodate us more. They have their own wedding planner which makes the whole process so easy. They changed little things on wedding breakfast menu so we could have a more tailored choice. They also let us choose a personalised drinks package to meet our needs. In the lead up to the day and on the day Zoe could not have been more helpful. Any little hiccups she dealt with and was brilliant at being down to earth and insisted we had what we wanted on our wedding day. She was amazing as were all the staff. The accommodation is fantastic and the bridal suite is stunning. The food for the wedding breakfast was incredible, all our guests said how lovely it was. The food in the restaurant for dinner the night before the wedding and for breakfast was also amazing. The setting is absolutely stunning with a lake and gorgeous grounds. We got married outside as it was a lovely day but you can also get married inside if the weather doesn’t play nice! The conservatory area where we had our reception was stunning, beautiful light and airy with a separate but attached room for our evening disco so people could escape the noisier room if they wanted to. On the whole Hornsbury Mill and all the staff made our wedding the best day of our lives and offered good value for money. I would not hesitate to recommend this venue to everyone. -

The best wedding venue!!

Right from seeing the venue to having meetings to arrange what we needed to do and what setup we wanted for our big day, all the staff at Hornsbury Mill have been superb. They listened to what we wanted and catered for all our needs. The actual venue is beautiful and having everything from getting ready, the ceremony, photos and the wedding breakfast made our day so much simpler and easier. We cannot thank the staff enough for making our wedding day absolutely perfect. -

Jane and her team at Hornsbury Mill are fantastic, friendly, flexible and very accommodating!
We got married there on the 22nd of August 2022 and could not have wished for or had a better venue. They listen to all your requests and try to ensure all of them are taken care of.
Jane ensures the day runs smoothly and checks in on you in the bridal suite several times to see of all is okay and if you need anything. She is there when the groom arrives and will even put his button hole on if it’s needed ( and the best man’s).
The whole place is set up for an indoor or outdoor ceremony and this can be altered right up until an hour before which is a fantastic option.
Having family stay overnight and all meet for breakfast finishes the wedding experience perfectly.
I would recommend having your wedding, numbers permitting, at Hornsbury Mill to anyone that would like things to be perfect.

Well what can we say, except Thank you! The wonderful Jane and Sophie mad our day perfect! From our first meeting Sophie kept up updated with everything and even give us hints and ideas of things that we had missed or had no clue about!
I think Jane was more excited then us for our big day! But that made it even more special! They put so much thought and love into our day and made everything so easy!
You know that wedding day stress you get with planning? Not with these two! Our planning was smooth (even though we had no idea and we were asking ridiculous questions most of the time!)
They interacted with all of our guests and Jane even got the shyest person onto the dance floor! I’m pretty sure she had a dance with a few of our guests too!
Honestly, we couldn’t of had a better day! They made our wedding perfect and the most magical moment of our lives. We could t thank them enough. The team and Hornsbury Mill will forever have a magical and special place in our hearts.
Please look no further for the most perfect venue. Also, the peacocks made the day even better! They chirped up when we had our first kiss! -
