19 May, 2025Our Real Wedding
We had exactly 12 weeks from the proposal to the ceremony. That seems like it's fast, but we've been together for 10 years and have 2 children, so once we decided, we didn't see the point in waiting any longer.
He proposed on a Monday, 24th February, and we had a lot of discussion in the couple of days after as to what sort of wedding we wanted to have. We already had a holiday booked for the end of May, so we thought we may as well make it our honeymoon. We scoured Hitched, searching for venues that still had some availability in the middle of May and booked in to view our top three on the Friday. We fell in love with the first place we visited - Sandhole Oak Barn, near Congleton. It's so interesting that venues can seem very similar on paper, but when you get there, they have a completely different vibe. Seeing the other two (both lovely) venues was far from a waste of time,e as it just confirmed our decision. We rang Sandhole from the car on the way home and booked in for Monday, 19th May.

There were several hiccups along the way (family drama and the seamstress forgetting about my fittings), but the day came in a flash, and then none of that mattered. There had been a long spell of beautiful weather, and we woke up to the first cloudy day in two weeks. It worked out beautifuly, though, as just as we started to walk down the aisle, the clouds parted and the sun came out! It was like a scene from a film.
The outdoor ceremony was really relaxed and Cheshire East registrations gave us so many different options to personalise everything how we wanted it to go. We had our children standing by our side. Of course our three year old decided to pipe up during the objections, which the registrar took in his stride.
The beautiful scenery looked incredible in our pictures taken by the highly skilled Christy Photography. She seemed to be everywhere and nowhere all at once. It was unfortunate that our six year old decided to have a big tantrum during the group pictures - but that's something to embarrass her with when she grows up and brings a partner home.
The food provided by Top Table was enjoyed by everyone and we were so well taken care of. We went for cupcakes with a small cake for cutting, which were all as delicious as they looked. Our band, The Get Back Beats, were actually the first thing we picked. We'd seen them at a friend's birthday party and knew that was exactly what we wanted for our wedding. They played all the right stuff.
The whole day was spectacular. I wish I could do it all again!
