30 Mar, 2026Our Real Wedding
The run-up to our big day had its ups and downs. We were originally supposed to get married 2 years prior, but I struggled with my mental health, so we decided to postpone. We also sadly lost both of Maxwell's parents in the run-up to our wedding, so we wanted to properly celebrate our relationship while still remembering the loved ones we lost.
We decided to get married at Brinsop Court because we fell in love with the manor house and moat. The night before, we stayed in a cottage on the property.
In the morning, I got up early, listened to the birdsong and did my own makeup. We then both went to the manor house at 11 in the morning to get ready in our separate quarters. My bridesmaids (and bridesman) got ready with me in the French bedroom, while my hair stylist Laura Price created a gorgeous half up half down style on me, with defined curls and a leafy beaded hair piece. My bridesmaids got me in my wed2be dress, which had an A-line shape, with a low neckline and lacy leafy sleeves. I was super excited and was ready early.

As part of our ceremony, we had the lyrics to the song 'I Choose You' read by two very dear friends. Max and I actually met at their wedding! We then had some friends sing 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight'. The acoustics were lovely in the courtyard, so they were able to sing without mics.
We then did our confetti shot outside the front of the manor house. We were super lucky with the weather, so we were able to have our drinks reception on the cricket pitch, while another friend played guitar and sang for us. The swing in the garden was a big hit, and lots of people got photos there.
Before our reception, we got some time alone with our photographer, Colin Nicholls, and got some beautiful photos in the grounds, around the moat.
We had a lovely three course meal in the Knot Barn: tomato soup, chicken supreme and lime cheesecake. We then had our speeches, which involved a hilarious gag where lots of the male guests came up to me to return keys to my property. I have never laughed so hard.
Our cake was made by Handmade by Solange. It had three layers: one was lemon and elderflower, one was Victoria sponge, and one was salted caramel. Our cake toppers were bride and groom guinea pigs, and we also had guinea pig-themed wedding favours! We also had some dairy-free and gluten-free cupcakes.
Our band was called Hard to Handle, and they had a huge setlist of songs to choose from. The quality of the music was fantastic, and they also did two DJ sets as well as two live sets. We had delicious loaded fries for our evening food. At around 10 pm, I got changed into some mint green pyjamas so I could dance more easily.
We also hired a magic mirror photo booth with Picture Blast, which included a guest book with all the photos.
Max and I slept in the Gothic bedroom that night, which is supposedly haunted!
In the morning, we had a continental breakfast with 25 guests who stayed at the manor house overnight. It was a great opportunity to talk to our guests properly.
We had an absolutely magical day, and after all the heartbreak we had been through over the past year, we couldn't have asked for more. A joyous day surrounded by people we love, who were there purely to celebrate our relationship.
