28 Oct, 2025Our Real Wedding
We planned a small wedding in Edinburgh remotely from Wales (after initially planning a completely different wedding in Gloucester). Our relationship started long distance with the Bride living in Scotland at the time, so moving our wedding to Scotland felt like a ‘full circle’ moment. We had our ceremony in Riddles Court on the Royal Mile, which was so magical, especially as someone who loves history! It was the perfect historical and romantic venue that was really enhanced by the moody October weather.
We did it all DIY, from the stationery to the flowers to the decor, and it worked out so well! It was so surreal to go from seeing all the decor in boxes scattered across our front room to then seeing it all set up in the venues. Whilst I was able to fly up to have a few days sorting out the last bits, my (now) Husband had to drive up with a few grooms men, all of their cars loaded up with all the decorations and my dress, except in this the groom's tie was somehow forgotten! Thankfully, we had a spare, so it was a crisis averted, between the event teams at Riddles Court and Hawksmoor alongside our photographer Lauren - any small hiccups on the day were soon sorted before we even had noticed, and Lauren made sure to capture any of the moments that went off plan and that had us all laughing.

Thankfully as well, it managed to hold off on the rain for almost the whole day, but we were prepared with wedding day rain ponchos as wedding favours which thankfully weren’t needed! The venue was amazing and the food was to die for; we have had non-stop compliments on the meal, even from people who initially were uncertain. The team worked seamlessly to make sure that the meal and evening drinks flowed nicely and made sure to avoid the ‘post-meal dip’ but arranging for cocktails and cake in a separate area so everyone could move, mingle and get some air before the drinks properly started flowing.
It was such a special day with all our family and close friends flying up to support us, and we wrapped it up with the auto marriage at Camera Obscura as a fun little end to our wedding weekend!
