Our Real Wedding
We had such a journey planning our wedding during lockdown, we weren't sure what would happen to venues and suppliers but after meeting with the Dorfold Hall team, our minds were put at rest. The first challenge was finding a venue that had some flexibility for what we wanted as well as accommodation and from some venues wanting us to pay more to have a different DJ to some not allowing us to book accommodation until 6 months before the wedding, Dorfold Hall had everything as well as a magical team who helped every step of the way. It was pretty emotional leaving the team after a year of planning!
Colours were hugely important for the wedding, especially as we aren't Spring colour people! Having an alternative wedding in the summer came with a few challenges but we definitely made it work. I want to say to men- DO NOT leave finding your suits and your groomsmen's suits until too late because there isn't actually the variety out there and you might get caught out too late if there is something specific that you want. We went for burgundy for the grooms party (groom, best man and grooms woman) and it was a bit of a challenge! We went for a few small businesses to help along the way as I feel that this support is important. So Tsp Cakes agreed to do a gluten free and vegan 3 tier cake for the wedding, my maid of honour crocheted our cake toppers, Bloom HQ did our flowers and I went with a bespoke dress from E&W Couture (travelling to Cardiff every few weeks for fittings!). My mum made the table runners so that the colours matched the theme and made a stunning floral and butterfly post box for the cards and letters.
Continue reading »We mixed a relatively rustic and alternative theme with a lot of fun in a beautiful setting with a historic house, modern reception buildings and wonderful grounds. Our food with SJE events was also all vegan and gluten free which was phenomenal- so many people asking if it was really vegan and gluten free. Paulina and Vlad from Urban Photo Lab were fabulous, they took so many photos in the background we barely knew they were there for a lot of the evening and in the day we were taken for many photos to compile our five hundred and something photo album!
On top of this we had a casino table for those wanting to take themselves off the dancefloor and Party Pods photo mirror which was probably one of my favourite hires of the day. So much fun and the photos go in to a guestbook so that is a job taken off the bridal party. During the daytime reception Giggles and Games provided the game entertainment such as connect 4, tug-o-war and limbo and while we didn't get to play, we saw everyone enjoying these as we were having our family photos done.
We had some sustainable suppliers including our invitations which were seed paper and Laura Likes changed the colour theme to suit our wedding, our place cards were also seed paper and we wrote those out ourselves. The seating plan was hand made and we had a tarot theme for the table names and numbers. The wedding favours were hand made by a friend of Luella's Treasures- they were resin coasters with flowers and tiny lemon slices in to fit the theme of the wedding.
They say that your wedding day is the best day of your life but I had no idea that it would actually be the most fun. So many people laughing, smiles and dancing. Not to mention our lucky break in the weather, beautiful sunshine! Zoe at Dorfold said that I was the most chilled bride and I think she definitely deserves some recognition for that by being such a fab organiser! I have loved wedding planning, I love organising events and this was something new and huge! It can be a wonderful experience if your priority is to have a good time and don't get bogged down in what other people might want, it's a day for the both of you and people want to be there then they will be!
