    Rude owner ruined first bridal visit

    The owner of this store was incredibly rude.
    Told me I was too early to try gowns on and that I can’t buy a gown until I have my venue, the girls can’t buy their dresses till I have mine and the groom can’t by his suit. Felt really uncomfortable within the first 5 minutes and felt like she had no time for me and my mum whatsoever. I was trying on dresses for the first time and while my mum was visiting. Then proceeded to allow me to try on 4 dresses seeing as I was there. Told me I didn’t suit a dress with sleeves because I’ve got tattoos down my arm and I look lob-sided!!
    Had there been a problem I should’ve been told when I booked the appt, Would not go here again, the room is rammed with dresses and it’s incredibly overwhelming. We were not made to feel welcomed or special at all.
    The next bridal shop I went to reassured me it was perfectly fine to research and try on dresses whenever I wanted to.

    I see from our diary that you came to see us back in early November of 2023, and at that time you had not actually booked your wedding.

    I'm sorry you felt that our advice was rude, certainly not our intention. The usual order is for the Bride to make her choice, before shopping for bridesmaids, principal ladies and gentlemen. This ensures that everything flows together perfectly.

    As we're an off the peg samples boutique, all of our gowns will be someone's wedding dress, and we need to be mindful of that. With no confirmed wedding, trying on one each of the main four styles to give you an idea was a courtesy to you.

    Dress shopping without a confirmed date and venue is not something we would recommend as you could easily make a choice which doesn't fit with your later vibe. We don't want anyone to waste their hard-earned money!

    Other boutiques have samples to try on and order from, with widely varying delivery dates, which may be why they were happy for you to continue your research.

    Fantastic professional in a bautiful setting. A wonderful first and last dress experience for me.

    I really enjoyed my appointment with Ali during the sale week raising money for Garston Animal rescue. She is very welcoming, very informative and really knows her stuff. There was no pressure to buy and no sales bull! What a genuine and lovely person, I would happily recommend her to anyone. She gave a lot of valuable advice, from fitting and adjustments, timelines, provided a list of seamstresses, even where to go for lunch! A wonderful first and last dress experience for me. Thank you!

    Don't make the same mistake!

    Ultimately the fault lies with the way Hitched works. I booked an appointment with Ali as she showed as a stockest of all my favourite gowns. In reality she isn't a stockest. None of the dresses I'd gone for or designers was actually there nor could she get hold of any. Ali did explain why she is showing as a stockest on these gowns which was if she had one (x designer dress) once she'd show and look on Hitched as if she is a full stockest of that designer. When actually she might not have any.

    I found Ali a little to familiar thats boarding being rude .I dont like the 5 dress rule, its just not enough to find the one! I thought the changing room was a good size. However the mirrors are too small and you struggle to see the back if the dress. I'd definitely recommend wall mounted wall to wall mirrors this would also provide more room.

    Ali has a passion to make every ladies day affordable! She really does try to provide a large selection of dress on a limited budget. There wasn't much in my size in the style I was after but that's just me and dosnt reflect on what she is or isn't offering.

    Because Ali isn't a stockest but an end of season buyer 'n' seller she unfortunately can't order dresses in different sizes (other then one new designer that she is now a stockest of).

    I personally didn't have the experience I was expecting or find my dress. But I just wasn't the right customer for Alis special store. Mainly because of Hitched bad set up, not Alis. It's completely unfair on Ali and myself that Hitched pointed me to her store. Ultimately it wasted both our times and led to a poor experience.

    Ali has an excellent store for ladies that are on tight budgets, open minded and on a tight time schedule. She is determined you can have a beautiful dress within your budget. I'd definitely recommend calling her prior to booking.

    Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a comprehensive review. It's always good to receive feedback from our customers, so that we can make our boutique even better.

    Yes, the Hitched algorithm is flawed - we know this and so do they. Unfortunately, as gowns, collections and store offers change constantly, it can only respond with the DESIGNERS not the individual gowns. We wish it was different, but hey-ho!

    We're VERY clear about what we offer - we are proud that we offer affordable, sustainable, size-inclusive designer wedding gowns. Typically, our Brides save 50%+ against purchasing a made-to-order gown. By including our new, exclusive, made-to-order collection, we feel that we have a fantastic offer of both off-the-peg and couture gowns. We now have around 600 gowns in store, most typical bridal boutiques will stock around 100.

    Unlike most other bridal boutiques, we do not charge for our 90 minute appointments, and as you're not getting married for another 2 and a half years, trying on 5 gowns at this stage is plenty. You are only at the beginning of your gown shopping journey - trying on too many at this stage would not be helpful, and we explained that and you agreed.

    As a recently-established business, we started small to make sure that we could thrive. Winning three national awards since opening in April 2021, helping 250 Brides - yes, now it's time to look for bigger premises. Finding the ideal location, premises, fixtures and fittings is hard, but when there is only you in the business, it's even harder, but I am trying!

    Do come and see us again nearer the time of your wedding - we'll be in our new location with even more fantasic gowns then!

    Warm and Fun Experience

    Alison is lovely and really helpful. Knows everything you need to know about the dresses and made the whole process go very smooth

    One of kind women who knows her stuff

    As it was my first bridal shop to visit. I was about nervous but soon as Ali came to meet us at reception I felt very warm welcome from herself and my nerves disappeared. Which was lovely feeling especially when you don't know what to except but from trying all the different dresses on an having my mum with me I also valued Ali's advice as she knew what looks right an doesn't. We the intention of just looking and trying a few on. I felt amazing when finally found the one an instantly fell in love. I SAID YES TO THE DRESS!! Thanks so much Ali you where very professional, warm an welcoming and nothing was too much can't wait for the big day to arrive.

    Wedding ready!

    My experience with Ali at Blue & Sixpence was perfect! Having been to other shops, boutiques and high street bridal stores, I felt so relieved when I found a store who shared my morals, didn't scoff at my budget or laugh at my time scale. I hadn't felt relaxed in a shop until this point. Having not been married or planned a wedding before, Ali's experience was truly welcomed and I felt she listened and gave professional advice. She was very accommodating, allowing me to swap an appointment, place a deposit and really think things over and not feel rushed or pressured, but she was realistic at the same time, explaining how off the peg purchasing works. I said yes to the dress today and feel so confident that I made the right choice! I loved my initial appointment and got to choose loads of amazing dresses to try, with my mum picking as well as Ali after me explaining my style choice and venue setting. She knew the brief and could pull dresses that she's knows, by name, that would be perfect! The dress that my mum picked was the one that I ended up getting which made it even more special that she was involved. I'd highly recommend Blue and Sixthpence. The set up really suited me and what I wanted from a shopping experience and wedding planning journey. Thanks again xx

    My experience at Blue and Sixpence was great!

    I was made to feel welcome and comfortable straightaway. Lots of time was spent asking me questions about what I was looking for. I was then able to try on 10 different dresses and found my dress on my first visit. I love it!

    Absolutely Amazing Ali - AAA

    Ali was so kind during my appointment, made me feel totally at ease, we laughed and joked the whole way through and she gave me time to view the dresses and make choices, explained everything I needed. Zipped me up, dressed and undressed me and was helpful with telling me which dresses she recommended and why. I bought my dress here!! I also bought a beautiful veil that Ali made herself!
