Wishing Well / Postbox alternatives

helenparki, 1 of February of 2012 at 14:27 Posted on Planning 0 21

We have asked for vouchers or money as our wedding gift and rather than using the same Wishing Wells / Postboxes to collect the cards in, is there anything different? What are you using?

My brother made me a little house out of plywood with a hinged lid, slot for envelopes & padlock. As we are saving to buy a house, it seemed fitting. Bit like a dolls house really, but with the roof on a hinge to open up. I've seen something similar ot hobbycraft.

My only concern about the open suitcase, or anything without a padlock, it safety. I'd like to think I can trust my guests, but there are also TOG, VOG, DJ, wait staff, bar staff, decorators, hotel staff etc etc.

You wouldnt leave thousands of pound notes just sitting on a table, so I dont know why people think its safe to leave them open to everyone just because they are in a card?

We've hired a white royal mail post box which will have a personalised plaque on it...I know it's still a standard post box, but it's not the regular tall cardboard ones you usually see at weddings.

Also, it is lockable - we have exclusive use of our venue, but things can get lost/go missing etc and I'd rather they were all somewhere safe for peace of mind.

Can I crash this one please? I've been thinking about something like this as although we haven't asked for money or vouchers, so don't need something secure, I'm pretty sure a lot of guests will bring cards that I'd like to contain tidily but discretely. OH wouldn't want anything as he wouldn't want to appear to presume people will bring them, hence extra discretion on my wishlist. But I can just see the cards piling up on a table and getting in the way. A suitcase, though I love the look, wouldn't really suit our garden theme, any suggestions? Happy to DIY it.

    Hi there

You could try a wishing tree, I've seen trees at weddings I have photographed. You write a message on a little heart shaped piece of paper and add it to the tree. Also used as guest book alternatives.

I've seen bird cages and red royal mail post boxes too.

Loving the wheelbarrow idea! Thanks! I will put something similar to him closer to the time- we have so much else left to sort out that he is likely to dismiss these details out of hand right now.

You could use a wicker picnic hamper instead of a case
