02 Jul, 2022Our Real Wedding
After 18 months of planning, we got married at Lusty Glaze Beach in Cornwall a month ago.
We’d hired the beach for our exclusive use from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning and it was the most perfect weekend from start to finish. We had watersports, volleyball, rounders and beach games in the sun on Friday afternoon, then beers and pizza as day turned into night.
The weather on Friday was absolutely spot on but, when we rose on Saturday the sea mist and pouring rain made the beach look pretty grim. As the bride, with my bridesmaids around me and a few champagnes flowing through, I knew that nothing could spoil our special day. Some amazing gifts from my husband-to-be, my special girls and my dad brightened things up even more and by 12 pm on the day of the wedding, it was still grey but the rain had stopped.
I felt amazing in my dress after all the worry leading up to it of ‘will it still fit me properly’, ‘will I feel nice’, ‘will Paul like it’ and all the usual stuff we women torture ourselves with! My hairdresser did THE most amazing job and I’d done my own makeup so I felt really comfortable (despite the second head that had appeared on my chin!). My bridesmaids looked absolutely stunning and it was time to go…
Continue reading »As I walked down the aisle on the beach to the sound of Etta James, with my son on one arm, and my dad on the other, (being led by my 11-year-old cocker spaniel, Ruby, in her tropical flower collar). I just couldn’t wait to get to Paul.
As soon as he saw me he had a little tear, accompanied by the biggest grin and I knew that everything was just right. It was still quite grey on the beach, but as the registrar began to talk about absent friends and sent out a prayer for my mum, whom we lost 5 years ago, the clouds broke and the sun came shining through. From that point on the weather was absolutely glorious, she’d just kept us guessing for a while!
The emotion of saying our vows and listening to the reading, one from our son, one from our friend who wrote her own was so overwhelming but saying ‘I do’ was the absolute happiest moment of our lives and we both just want to do it all over again now.
We danced back down the aisle to our favourite house tune and from there the music took over. With steel drums, a saxophonist and DJs, sun, cocktails, sea and music, it was just absolutely about who we are. But the thing that made it the best day of our lives was the people! We had everyone in the world who was most special to us on that beach, (save for a few who were sadly missed). Everyone there was crazily happy for us both and genuinely over the moon to be a part of our special day, and it showed. We laughed, we cried, we danced we sang and most of all, we loved it.
We could not have asked for anything more and we wouldn’t have changed a thing.
