James proposed to me in the typically romantic setting of 'our living room on the sofa', and things accelerated from there. We had to do multiple weddings in the year (in the UK and in Nigeria) so we had to keep costs down and focus on the most important things! So we prioritised food, drink, and most importantly, getting the people that we loved there. That last point is more complicated than it sounds when you have a Nigerian passport and live in the UK - it is only thanks to a last-minute intervention by our local MP that my brother was able to get a visitor visa to come from the UK and walk me down the aisle.
Our day was incredible. We didn't spend a fortune on anything really - clothes off the peg, IKEA table decor, flowers from our garden, and calling family favours to decorate. We just made sure the food and drink and music was on point, and we couldn't have wished for a nicer celebration.
