04 Oct, 2026Our Real Wedding
We started planning very early as Ian's family are very scattered around the UK and we wanted to make sure everyone had plenty of time to be organised. After looking around and comparing different venues, we decided on the Lake District. Ian grew up there, and I would go with my family in the summer as a child, and Ian and I visit regularly for long weekends, to hike, paddleboard, and visit friends. It has become a part of who we are and has been an important part of our relationship, so it felt right.
I love being creative and crafty, so this was a great opportunity for me to try my hand at flower arranging, creating centrepieces, designing all of our stationery, even down to each individual guest having their own watercolour Autumn leaf place setting. This was all great fun and saved us a lot of money.
We decided on Armathwaite Hall as our venue as they not only had the best value for money, but we also adored the idea of having our ceremony in the forest. Lynsey was lovely throughout the whole planning process and made sure everything ran smoothly on the day. The team was very accommodating, really wanting to understand our vision for our day, and adding touches that they had to hand, that would go along with our nature/autumnal theme.

She was always quick to respond when planning, excited and eager to hear our thoughts and ideas, and never stopped working on the wedding day itself. She captured the day perfectly, exactly as it was, with breathtaking candid shots as well as more staged group shots, which were very efficient. She is truly professional and has a brilliant way with people of all ages, helping to put everyone at ease in front of the camera, even those who don't like having pictures taken. She was keen to get to know us beyond our wedding, and this extra time and work really shine through in her work. She doesn't just capture the couple on their wedding day; she comes in with an understanding of who they are as individuals and a couple and delivers wedding photos that truly reflect and feel like the couple. We couldn't have chosen anyone better, not just an amazing photographer but a brilliant woman, and we're forever grateful for her.
Though we checked out of Armathwaite Hall at 11 o'clock, they very generously allowed us to use the spa until 1 o'clock, which was lovely, especially after such a busy day with so much dancing. It was a lovely end to a perfect weekend.
