03 Jun, 2025Our Real Wedding
When my husband and I got engaged, choosing a location wasn’t easy. With a strong contingent of friends and family living internationally, a UK wedding for the big celebration didn’t feel quite right. We decided to get legally married in London, where we met, and with only 8 guests, but as Italy has long been one of our favourite places, celebrating our bigger wedding among the hills of Tuscany felt right, and it turned into a holiday for everyone.
Planning a destination wedding without a planner was no small task. I did have a day coordinator, who was incredible and truly essential, especially where the language barrier could have been an issue. Finding my dress was also a journey in itself. One of my bridesmaids came with me to countless dress appointments across London, and after visiting around 15 shops, I ended up choosing my dress from the very first place we went to.
In terms of style, I wanted the wedding to feel simple and elegant, with minimal decorations and florals to let the venue speak for itself. I also struggled with the idea of spending thousands on flowers only for them to be thrown away the next day, both from a sustainability and commercial perspective. The venue we chose was perfect and allowed us to fully embrace the natural beauty of the Italian landscape. It offered several different spaces for each part of the celebration, which kept things interesting and dynamic. It also had accommodation for around 65 guests on site, and another lovely hotel B&B within walking distance, which was key for us; once everyone arrived, everything was easy. No taxis, no coaches, and no wasted time travelling, which meant we could truly maximise time with our guests, especially as so many had travelled from abroad. There was also a lovely little town just five minutes away, perfect for in-between events and for guests to explore.

The evening was relaxed, with a buffet-style spread, free seating, fresh pizza cooked on site, salads, and free-flowing wine and beer. We kicked things off with a Tuscan folk band, who were incredible and immediately set the tone for the weekend. It was such a lovely opportunity for family and friends to meet, reconnect, and ease into the celebrations, which took some pressure off the wedding day itself. Walking down the steps from the villa to join everyone with music playing, laughter everywhere, and seeing it all from above, was a moment I’ll never forget.
The ceremony took place by the pool in the warmth of the afternoon sun, overlooking the rolling hills. After exchanging vows, we had our confetti moment as we made our way back to the villa. Aperitivo followed in the courtyard and Italian garden, which were perfect for relaxed mingling and smaller group photos. With jazz saxophone music, Aperol spritzes, charcuterie, cheese, oysters, and scallops, the atmosphere was effortlessly relaxed.
Dinner and cake cutting took place among the guest apartment buildings; beautiful rustic stone spaces that felt intimate and warm. As the sun set during dinner, the light became incredibly soft and golden, and those photos remain some of my favourites. I was inspired by Italian wedding table settings I’d seen online and wanted something unique and social. While I loved the idea of a continuous or serpentine table, we adapted it into a horseshoe shape, which kept everything feeling intimate and connected. The flowers by Bianchi Fiori were exactly what I had hoped for: soft, elegant, all-white single stems arranged in small vases. The cake cutting, complete with sparklers, was such a special shared moment and the perfect lead-in to the party.
The first dance and after-party in the cellar were unforgettable. The dance floor was full all night, the DJ and saxophonist were phenomenal, and the energy never dipped. One moment that will stay with me forever was looking around the dance floor and seeing everyone genuinely having the best time. That feeling of joy, laughter, and togetherness was exactly what we wanted our wedding to be.
The following day, we hosted a relaxed pool party by the infinity pool overlooking the hills. With a barbecue, gelato, plenty of pool floats and drinks available for everyone to help themselves to, and incredible weather once again, it was the perfect way to wind down. It only started raining the morning everyone was leaving, which made saying goodbye even harder after such an unforgettable few days.
Looking back, it’s impossible to choose a single favourite moment. I look back through the photos and videos regularly; our Photographer and Videographer were so wonderful and captured the atmosphere of the day so incredibly. I'll cherish these memories forever. From the setting and styling to the music, food, and atmosphere, everything came together seamlessly. Knowing that our friends and family had such an amazing time made every bit of planning completely worth it. I’ve mentioned many of the highlights above, but I’m so grateful to all of our vendors; the weekend truly wouldn’t have been the same without them so here’s a proper shout out to each.
Vendors
VENUE – Borgo di Pietrafitta Relais (Castellina in Chianti, Tuscany) Stunning, stunning, stunning — with wonderful staff and accommodation.
CATERER – Italian Taste Lodovichi Absolutely incredible. So many of our guests said it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had. They provided:
Welcome dinner
Wedding day food
Ceremony chair set-up
Wedding dinner lighting
Open bar
Furniture
Mise en place
POOL DAY CATERER – AMA on the Road They provided BBQ meats, salads, and gelato — everyone loved them. Such a great, relaxed setup.
WELCOME DINNER BAND – The Tuscany Folk Band I can’t express how good these guys were. Everyone loved them and the vibe they created was unreal.
WEDDING DAY MUSIC – Spicy Sax (DJ & Saxophonist) These guys were insane. I didn’t book them through a recommendation — I found them on Fix The Music and loved their page. They had 20 weddings in June! The dance floor was full all night, and when they spoke to me about extending, they said they were exhausted but the group’s energy was so good they were happy to keep going.
HMUA – Melissa Oldridge A friend of mine and an incredibly talented hair and makeup artist. She’s amazing — so skilled and also wonderfully calming on the day.
WEDDING DAY COORDINATOR – Righe e Pois I booked Cecilia after a glowing recommendation from someone who had also married at the same venue. She was so attentive, gave invaluable advice, and worked seamlessly with the venue staff. I absolutely adored her and her assistant and would highly recommend them.
PHOTOGRAPHER / VIDEOGRAPHER – Amity Visuals They’re our friends and don’t usually do weddings, but they have the best energy and blended into the crowd so naturally. We couldn’t have asked for more.
FLORIST – Bianchi Fiori Stunning flowers, super organised, and lovely to work with. They were also by far the most reasonably priced compared to other quotes we received.
