06 Sep, 2025Our Real Wedding
Alistair and I had been together for over ten years before he finally got down on one knee. We’d just bought a house together and had even gone ring shopping, so I knew it was coming soon – but he still managed to completely surprise me. Because I’m very sensory, he was so sensitive to my needs when designing the ring. He sourced the stone himself and had it customised with Compare the Diamond, making sure every detail was just right for me.
I had convinced myself it would happen on a trip to the Chatsworth Christmas Markets – and I’d even been preparing how to support him through his nerves, as he struggles with anxiety and I knew how much pressure he felt. But instead, he took me completely off guard the day before.
I was in London for work – the city where we first met and lived together – and he surprised me at St Pancras station. He texted to meet him at the Champagne Bar, our favourite spot for winding down after stressful weeks when we lived there. In a private booth, away from the crowds, he gave a heartfelt speech, handed me a beautiful bunch of flowers, and got down on one knee. It was intimate, thoughtful, and so perfectly us.

Food was at the heart of our decision – we’re both foodies – and Langar’s reputation was outstanding. Not only was the food and service incredible, but the house itself reminded us of our favourite London spots, like Mr Fogg’s, which made it feel even more personal.
Planning was a whirlwind – I’m not the most organised, so much of it came together last minute! I had no fixed vision for my dress, but when I visited Bethany Rose Bridal with our mums, I fell in love with a Dando London gown almost instantly. It turned out to be a brand-new design, and I was the very first to try it on – possibly even the first bride to walk down the aisle in it! That made it feel even more special.
The details came together almost by happy accident. For favours, we discovered The Plant Pod terrariums at our local village market, which doubled as table décor alongside the three stunning centrepieces by The Art of Flowers. They also created my bouquet – all based only on a photo of our cake for colour inspiration! Somehow, unintentionally, it all perfectly matched the warm orange tones of Langar Hall itself!
I was so lucky with my glam team. Hayley Marie MUA worked wonders to cover grazes from a fall I’d had just two weeks before, and my usual hairdresser, Hair by Tori, styled me in a way that felt natural and comfortable.
Claire Elizabeth Creates made us a beautiful two-tier cake with lemon elderflower and vanilla raspberry flavours, and my stepsister handmade toppers to sit alongside it.
The weather on the day was glorious, and everything was captured by Chris Terry Photography. Chris was incredible – he blended right in, catching all the laughter, warmth, and those candid little moments that mean so much.
Looking back, my favourite moment of all was the ceremony itself. Alistair had been so nervous, but he ended up relaxing so much that he was even cracking jokes with the registrars! Seeing him transform from anxious to relaxed in that moment is something I’ll never forget.
After more than a decade together, our wedding day wasn’t about extravagance – it was about intimacy, laughter, and finally celebrating our love in the presence of the people who mean the most to us. It was everything we could have wished for and more.
