Getting Married in Lake Garda

Italy’s largest lake stretches across three regions in the country’s north so no wedding abroad in Lake Garda will be quite the same as another. At its northern end, the mountainous scenery makes a stunning backdrop for your photos with historic castles as the perfect venue. In the south of Lake Garda, the lakeside has an almost Mediterranean feel and relaxed waterfront towns like Bardolino where you can tie the knot. And everywhere you’ll find lemon groves and brightly coloured boats sailing on water so blue, it’s been compared to a jewel.

If you love the idea of marrying in a castle, the eastern side of the lake has historic venues galore: Torri del Benaco and Castello di Lonato can both host outdoor ceremonies with panoramic views, while the famous Castello di Malcesine is one of the area’s most famous spots. There has been a fortress in the town since the sixth century, while the fairytale Scaligero Castle on its clifftop perch still has a medieval tower and fortifications. If you wander the twisting maze of streets to the water, the picturesque port is equally pretty.

Or relax at the southern tip of the lake: the local vineyards produce some of Italy’s famous wines including Valpolicella, Bardolino, Soave and Amarone, while there are also hot springs at Sirmione discovered by the Romans if you need to unwind completely.

As well as lake cruises, romantic Verona is only a short drive away, while fairytale Venice is also close enough for a day trip, both with international airports making it easy to fly to Lake Garda.
