03 Jul, 2021Our Real Wedding
Where to begin?!The most perfect day…. Even with all the Covid nonsense!Firstly we’ve been together for almost 12 years and I genuinely thought glenn was never going to propose! He finally did in October 2020, the day before our 11th anniversary.I got to planning straight away (not giving him chance to change his mind!) and set the date at April 3rd 2021. We had already made the decision that our wedding would be small, just immediate family. A lot of my family are Irish and we were sure they wouldn’t be able to come over for a wedding due to their restrictions and we honestly didn’t want to hold out for a time when ‘big’ weddings would be allowed again. But, lockdown! And we didn’t come out of it! I had all the big things sorted! My dress was the first thing I found and I had that ‘oh my god this is really happening’ moment.A friend recommended a makeup artist who then recommended a hairdresser, perfect, both booked. Next was the photographer, who I found on Instagram and loved her photos! She was also local to me in Derbyshire, which was important to me for our wedding. As neither of us are religious, we decided on the local registry office at Matlock County Hall, which is a stunning building with gorgeous grounds.Fast forward, and April 3rd was getting closer, with no sign of lockdown ending. We made the tough decision to move the date, initially to May 29th then again to July 3rd. Luckily for us, all our vendors were able to accommodate the changes we made and it felt like July 3rd was going to stick!Once restrictions started to lift I actually had to start planning the finer details of this wedding! We chose the Matlock Bath hotel and spa for our reception and we’re able to ask for 22 guest in one of their smaller rooms. Cue a mad panic once hotels were able to open to get the menu sorted, start thinking about decor, cake, flowers! It was a lot! Luckily, a friend of Glenn’s is a trained florist and had already offered to do our wedding flowers. All I wanted was pink and green, apart from that I didn’t care what she did! Boy did she nail it! Finally all the plans came together and our day was here. I was so nervous all day (3pm wedding meant a lot of stressing our time). We had decided to do a first look prior to the ceremony to help both of our anxiety on the day. It was perfect, the second I saw him I felt better and he said the same. And it was a great way to start our married life, a few minutes just the two of us, and the photographer obviously.Choosing to have a small wedding, just the two of us and 20 guests was absolutely perfect. We got to spend time with the most important people in our lives as well as enjoying the day.
