Pepe Botella opened his first bridalwear shop in Alicante, Spain, over 36 years ago. From the very beginning, the designer set out to move away from the austerity of the traditional wedding dress. Focusing on the freedom of expression, he created bold new styles using new fabrics, and in 1980 his first collection was presented and received critical acclaim.
After running his brand for 20 years, Pepe handed over the reins to his daughter Lucia Botella, who has inherited her father’s talent. After spending her childhood surrounded by veils, tulles, laces and silks, she honed her skills by completing an apprenticeship with her father and presented her first collection in 2000. Lucia has proved herself to be a fearless innovator, drawing inspiration from everything, including haute couture, beach life and 1950s glamour – and even introduced colour to the 2005 collection.
Numerous collections later, Pepe Botella is at the avant-garde of bridal design. They are one of the leading players in the international bridal market, taking their creations far beyond the bridal catwalk in Barcelona to Europe, Latin and North America and Japan. The brand often returns to their Latin roots for inspiration – resulting in a fusion of innovative design and bold fabrics that create wedding dresses that are as romantic as they are dramatic.
