Hatton Garden vs. Birmingham Jewellery Quarter

I can't comment on Hatton Garden but can on JQ, I got my engagement ring from there - for an idea of price it was about 60% cheaper than what we had it valued at. We paid £1200 for a 0.4 carrot diamond (triple excellent, round cut - it is absolutely stunning, if I do say so myself with an 18ct White gold band. There is a photo of it as my avatar! It was valued at around £1900. I hope that helps :-)

Just realised I've put the maths done wrong! It was 40% less than what valued at, we paid 60% of the value if that makes sense!!!

OH says he got a good deal on my ER from Hatton Garden (didn't ask how much but I have about 0.9ct Marquis with pear shape either side). Insured for more than he paid by quite a bit. One tip is to ignore the big places at Hatton Garden, they're at least as expensive as the high street and won't haggle. Go to the smaller places with in house workshops and you'll get a better deal it just won't look so fancy in the shop!

I can't comment on Hatton Garden, but I live in Birmingham and the JQ is definitely worth it.

My mum and SIL both got their rings from there, but I'm afraid I don't know prices.

I do know a lady who does a 'make your own Wedding Ring workshop' in the JQ though and she's lovely. She's married to my Sister-in-Law's Brother

My OH and I bought my engagement ring together from a shop called Channings in Hatton Garden.

I must admit they were amazing (not pushy at all and we haggled with them!) and they also said if we go back to get the wedding bands with our receipt they will give us an additional 35% off the price (even those in the sale).

We got my ring for about 50% less than the price it was valued at.

If you live in London I'd recommend going to HG before you take a trip to Birmingham just so you can get an idea of what you like and the prices etc. I cant comment on if JQ are cheaper I'm afraid.

As someones mentioned above, if you go to a workshop in HG rather than an actual shop these will be cheaper too. There's one called Diamond Rocks that is well known in HG.

Afraid like the others I've only been to JQ...

My engagement ring was from JQ, .32 main diamond + .16ct in shoulders (good quality diamond too if that matters to you - E VS2 excellent cut) platinum ring. Valued £1795, paid £1000. The shop we bought from were actually a little reluctant to haggle but we got some money off the listed price (which was still a lot less than the valuation).

We will go back for wedding rings too. I have no idea if it's any cheaper than Hatton Garden though, if it is I would guess not significantly so as most people list both as good places to go?

Hey I've been to both and found no difference in the prices to be honest! Agree with the previous poster that the bigger shops offer less room to haggle or indeed customise. But my top top is whether you choose hg or jq shop around within it!

OH bought my ER from hg and insured it for 40% more than he paid (he basically on,y paid for the diamond and got the platinum and smaller diamonds for free!) and the shop which was only small said come back for wedding rings and we will do you a 40% discount as an existing customer. Well that was a load of crap! We tried a plain 5mm for him in palladium and a platinum half eternity diamonds for me and they quoted £1900 which included a 20% discount because I pushed based on teh promise of 40%. We then wandered down to ace of diamonds (hg this is) and found platinum 3/4 eternity diamond for me and 5mm yellow gold for him for £1000. Needless to say we bought them!

Only reason we ended up in HG for wedding rings was the promise of discount from the ER shop, and he bought the er from there because he felt there was more choice and he could disguise the trip as a visit to friends in London! X

My engagement ring comes from John M Reynolds in Hatton Garden and I think we are heading back there when we look at wedding bands. When I went to get my ER resized they were completely lovely and totally professional.

I'd highly recommend them!

Deciding on a wedding band is a tricky one! Me and fiancé found that we found loads of styles and designs, which we liked but couldn't pick one in particular.

We had a look in Hatton Garden too, but we felt there was more choice in the Jewellery Quarter in the end.

I know this post is old-ish, but thought I'd add in anyway. We went to Hatton Garden and tied it in with the NWS. I got a bit sparkled out by it all tbh, but I found the ring I wanted in HG, then by chance with a jeweller at the NWS, so it felt like it was mean to be. The cost was my only sticking point because it was a diamond and platinum band. My now hub wasn't having a band, so it meant I had more budget to play with, but the price bugged me. Eventually, I had a play with google images and found the exact same ring £400 cheaper (!) online at Serendipity Diamonds on the Isle of Wight. I couldn't believe it! They were great and offered to send a mock to check the sizing before ordering, but I didn't need to and it was perfect. Can't recommend them enough.

I currently live in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter and they're absolutely great for weddings rings and also great on price, I would recommend visiting Diamond Quarter
