Discover beautiful venues for a perfect Italian wedding
With its deep blue waters, set against the mountains in the background, Lake Como has been praised for its beauty for centuries. Beloved of film-makers, who’ve used the lakeside setting in a string of movies including Casino Royale, it’s tempted stars from Greta Garbo and Frank Sinatra to George Clooney, who has a house nearby.
Italy’s third largest lake, its three branches are home to the Renaissance city of Como with a funicular whisking you into the foothills of the Alps at Brunate, the picturesque town of Bellagio, not to mention the stylish villas of Varenna, Menaggio, Lenno and Tremezzo.
At 30 miles long, you won’t be short of venues to choose from either: the Lido di Lenno has its own lakeside beach while the 16th century Villa d’Este has been named the best hotel in the world thanks to its 25 acres of park, as well as a historic mansion built for a queen of England.
Or marry at Ossuccio, home to the tower which is the official symbol of Lake Como. With three settings for a ceremony, you can say ‘I do’ in a medieval courtyard, a lakeside setting or a garden with an olive tree grove before taking a cruise after the ceremony.
You can even say your vows at Villa Balbianello, where Bond recovers in Casino Royale, its gardens sweeping down to the lakefront.
Even the weather is perfect: the gentle climate means a wedding abroad in Lake Como is possible from March until October, or into November, while Milan’s two international airports are both around 45 minutes away.
