This year’s collection can be seen as the blossoming of a new era at Lyn Ashworth.Taking over, as Creative Director is Sarah Barrett, who brings to the company a wealth of experience gained through two decades of working in both the bridal industry and theatrical costume design.Sarah and Lyn have worked closely together over the last few years and the 2013 collection showcases this collaboration. Staying faithful to the essence of the Lyn Ashworth label, Sarah’s flair and expertise adds a new dimension to the ethos of the company following Lyn’s retirement.
Designing and producing couture-wedding dresses in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside Sarah’s vision for the label is simple.“Each wedding dress should be a beautiful object in itself, finely sewn with care and attention to detail. So when time goes by and it’s discovered at the back of a wardrobe or unfolded from a dusty box at the back of an attic, although the inspiration from where it once came has gone it will still amaze simply through its style and quality.”Sarah works closely with her talented team of cutters and seamstresses here in the UK and where possible she sources fabrics from the UK and Europe. This enables her to have full control over the complete process from design through to finished garment.“It is important to re-introduce skills to the new generation who are yet to experience the excitement of working in this industry. Developing relationships with university courses, tapping into the wealth of talented students graduating year on year would seem a completely logical step. For this years photo shoot we have already worked with students from the Theatre, Performance and Event Design degree at Birmingham City University.” Inspired by the beauty of the English country garden, the 2013 Lyn Ashworth by Sarah Barrett collection combines the luxury of silk, the richness of satin and the delicacy of floral motifs, with the romance of rose hues.Styles are stunning in their simplicity; skirts are full but elegant; bodices demure but not shy, resulting in a very confident and quintessentially British collection.
