About Sparkford Hall

Nr Bruton
Somerset, BA22 7LD

Sparkford Hall is the ultimate quirky venue!

We’re definitely not your typical wedding venue. Sure, we can host a traditional white wedding reception, just like anyone else, but if you’re looking for something daring, different and decadent, well, that’s right up our alley!

The grade II listed house and grounds can be entirely yours for the day, the weekend or the whole week.

Our grounds feature rolling parkland, kitchen garden, paddocks and an apple orchard which all are inhabited by our coloured sheep, shaggy Shetland ponies, chickens, badgers and lots of other wildlife.

You can chose to get married in the Library (25 guests), the Salon (80 guests), or go mad and decorate the Barn for up to 300! Other alternatives are handfasting ceremonies, offerings, getting married in the local church… you dream it we can do it because all persuasions, religions and beliefs are welcome at Sparkford

A lazy reception lunch amidst autumn leaves in the grounds, perhaps a more formal sit down wedding  breakfast in our saloon, attach a marquee to the house (up to 120) or fill our barn (up to 200) with all your guests for a huge banquet. Afterwards why not party in the cellars into the early hours…

Catering options range from our chef featuring produce from our own kitchen garden to a simple ‘take-away’ style menu

• The Ultimate Quirky Wedding Venue • Stunning 11 Bedroom house with 23 acres for your sole use plus other accommodation options • Up to 200 using marquee attached to house or 300 capacity if using the barn • Special midweek wedding packages available • Party the night away in our dungeons • Bespoke themed décor and party planner available

Dear Tony & Laleh, First of all thank you so much for all your hard work! What can I say about Sparkford Hall as a wedding venue. It was absolutely amazing!!! And we had a fantastic weekend. I think everybody at our wedding did too, and our wedding was definitely one to remember! It felt like we were getting married at home, really laid back and fun vibe, which is what we wanted. Such a stunning venue and Laleh and her team did an amazing job bringing my enchanted forest theme to life. It was so beautiful and real had a magical quality. Annie did a fantastic job with the flowers and they couldn't of been more perfect. I would definitely recommend Sparkford Hall as a wedding venue, because you let people have free creativity to what you want to do. Iain and I felt that was important to express our personalities' and a lot of venues I feel, don't let you do that. The whole weekend was magical and thank you so much! And we have such great memories and would love to come back for a reunion party!! Much love Kat & Iain Married on 26th September 2015

Best Wedding Venue
Venue Service

Dear Laleh & Tony, Thanks again for making the weekend not only a fantastic one for myself and Dan but for all our guests who like us have fallen in love with Sparkford. Everything could not have been more perfect, it all went so smoothly and the hard work that you and your team put in was appreciated by all, from the Rum Shack downstairs to the boat full of booze, the place looked fantastic! So many of our guests have said that it was the best wedding that they have been to and the best venue. We will definitely be visiting Sparkford again (apologies in advance!) and are already planning a future event that we can hold there. All the Best and Thanks Again! Mr. & Mrs. Hardy x

Our Perfect Day
Venue Service

By Hamish McLachlan, on 28 Sep 2015

Dear Tony and Laleh, Both Andrea and I just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you both for helping to make our wedding everything we wanted it to be. We had such a wonderful time, the wedding turned out to be everything we had hoped it would be – with so many people telling us how impressed they were with Sparkford Hall and how much they enjoyed themselves. Everything combined from the marquee and catering, to the band and most importantly the venue to make us feel like we had a perfect day. One of our guests has even recommended Sparkford Hall to her sister as a venue for her wedding next year! Thanks again for everything, we had such a great time! Hamish, Andrea and Eloise

Amazing Stunning Venue
Venue Service

By Jessica Hadfield, on 28 Sep 2015

Hi Tony, Wow what an amazing venue. All of our guests were stunned and so were we. We spent the first few hours just walking around the house and grounds taking it all in. It was even more beautiful than we remembered from our first visit 18 months ago. It suited our wedding perfectly and we were all sad to leave on the Friday morning. Sparkford Hall made our day special and I hope we can return one day. Thanks, Jessica

Unforgettable weekend

Tony/Laleh, A big thank you both for your help in making August 1st a weekend Jana and I will never forget. It all came together amazingly, and ranks as one of the best weekends of our lives. The Hall proved an amazing venue, and our guests and family loved it. That we still had stragglers left in the "rave cave" after 7am is testament to that!! Glad you two had fun too. You both put in a lot of work to make it magical, so thanks. I know a couple of people who have mentioned they now have their eyes on it for other possible events over the next year or so....! Thanks so much again. Big hug, Hugo and Jana

Hi Tony and Laleh, Just a quick message to say a massive thank you from Laura and I for providing a fantastic venue for our wedding. All the guests could not get over how amazing the house was, and the basement was a brilliant surprise for everyone. Thanks again, and I will definitely be recommending the venue to any friends that might be getting married in the future. Jon & Laura

A Perfect venue
Venue Service

By Karl Bradford, on 28 Sep 2015

Just wanted to write to say thank you for your help with our wedding, and especially making it so nice and sunny on the day! We had a really awesome day and had so many comments on what a lovely venue Sparkford Hall is and how amazing it all looked. It created exactly the type of wedding we wanted, being relaxing and fun. As you know, Ruth hadn't seen Sparkford until the Friday morning (in the rain!) but was delighted how it looked. It was also great to be able to friends and family staying with us in the house, everyone commented on how beautiful the rooms were. All of your external team were great. Phil was brilliant on the day and we are really looking forward to seeing the photos. The Queens arms really did a great job and the food was fantastic. Liam was also great in the evening, helping move some of the bar down to the cellar so we could carry on the party into the night. We are still very much buzzing from the whole thing. Cheers Karl & Ruth

Sparkford Hall - An Amazing Venue
Venue Service

By William Bennett, on 28 Sep 2015

Dear Tony, Laleh and your wonderful team, A big hello from the both of us in Dubai! We are just looking through all of our wedding photos and reliving what was the most perfect weekend in sunny Somerset. We had such and incredible day and you all helped to pull it off for us. I can’t think of a single person that wasn’t amazed by what they saw. The house, the decor, the staff, the service - it all went pretty smoothly. I think with our vision and ideas and your capability we created a spectacular wedding! Laleh - Charlie was fantastic. Please pass on a huge thank you to her. Do you have her email address? Sadie, Liam and your team were all brilliant; they were dead efficient and knew what to do and when to do it. The guests were constantly fed and watered which is half way to making a perfect wedding, so please pass on our thanks to them. Maybe they weren’t efficient enough as we had cases of booze left over in the end!! Sparkford has obviously come a long way recently and you can see that the machine is pretty well oiled now - it sounded like you were super busy this year, but managed to pack it all in, so here’s hoping that next year is just as busy. I know you said we were hard to work with but I’m sure you’ll agree that it was so personal and unique to us and an all-round success. As I said, many compliments of the hall and the team from all of our guests, so bravo and thanks for making them all feel welcome, from California, Dubai, France and beyond! Will and Helene-Marie x

Sparkford Hall Review Part 2
Venue Service

By I. A. Craighead, on 24 Sep 2015

A great start to our stay when we had to wash dishes by hand for the 20 or so guests who were staying at the house. When Tony was appraised of this problem all he could say was that he was tired of replacing wheels on the dishwasher and he didn’t know what guests did with them – no attempt was made to repair the dishwasher by him for the remainder of our stay. One of our guests had trouble with a door lock so he was given a screwdriver and expected to fix the problem himself. Of more serious concern were the shortcomings of an old building:- there was no handrail on a stairway up to the dormitory; a balcony safety rail appeared to be so loose that if anyone leant on it, it looked as though it would come away; the concrete stairs down to the cellars were so steep and dimly lit that an accident was highly likely if used by small children or anyone who had drunk a little too much alcohol and there was a distinct lack of smoke/fire alarms in the building. An electrician friend of ours couldn’t understand how such a venue could get a licence to operate with these sort of shortcomings. On a positive note, the weather was perfect for the 3 days we were there and the local bakery were so helpful and accommodating, in contrast to Tony & Laleh. The first 2 venues I mentioned provided a pleasant, relatively stress free experience whereas this was the complete opposite. In conclusion I would not recommend this venue to anyone but if you insist on using it then check exactly what you get for your money at the outset and ask to see all relevant safety certificates.

Sparkford Hall is very concerned to read this review. I have been through all the correspondence with ourselves and the caterers and feel we have always tried to find a compromise to all the questions asked. The bride and groom and parents visited Sparkford Hall on several occasions so the comments on the house itself (like the staircase), which is a listed building, was the same as when they visited on the various occasions, so there should of been no surprises, also when a guest comes and asks to borrow a screwdriver we just go out of our way and lend it them. This couple bought an all inclusive midweek wedding package which is great value at £7,500 which includes full accommodation of the main house and food for 50 people. There were then extra guests and a complete change of menu that involved a lot more detail and and more/extra staff involvement, which of course meant a greater cost. We even arranged for all their evening entertainment to take place in our barn and did not charge for this (normally a minimum of £750 for use of this additional space). This wedding was in the middle of June 2015 and it has been some 3 months, this is the first we have heard of these issues they have not been brought to our attention at any time. On the days leading up to wedding there was much confusion as the bride did not even know if the groom was going to be allowed in the country so obviously emotions were running high and Sparkford Hall and the caterers did what we could to keep things running as smoothly as possible. On check out the happy couple had nothing but praise for all of the team at Sparkford Hall and that all of their guests had a great time.

Sparkford Hall Review Part 1.
Venue Service

By Ian Craighead, on 24 Sep 2015

As father of the bride for the 3rd time, I feel qualified to give an objective review of this venue. Our eldest daughter’s wedding reception was held on the shores of Loch Lomond in a hall of similar size to Sparkford and our middle daughter’s reception was held in a castle to the west of Stirling (a larger venue than Sparkford). Our initial visit to Sparkford, was encouraging – the management were very helpful and gave the impression that anything could be arranged. However, once we had committed to the venue we soon found out that all of these little touches were extra and at, what we felt were, exorbitant prices (e.g. £150 for “recycling” i.e. disposing of glass bottles). When we declined these options and said we would arrange our own marquee, tents etc. it was clear that the initial, friendly atmosphere was beginning to evaporate. The caterer to whom we were introduced was pleasant but overpriced and we were not then allowed (by Sparkford) to use an alternative. In addition, we were later informed by the caterer that they would be removing the glasses at 9pm, in the middle of the reception. Our stay at the hall was marred by having to keep looking for the managers to get things done that had been promised. In most of the infrequent contact with them we felt that we were now considered as a nuisance. Suffice to say that the bride to be ended up in tears the night before the ceremony wondering what sort of disastrous day was about to happen! The house itself looks the business (on the surface). However, on our first day we found that of the 2 dishwashers there, one wasn’t plumbed in and the other did not wash the dishes properly.

Amazing freedom to create our perfect day
Venue Service

By Paul and Susanna David, on 19 Nov 2013

Thanks for the fantastic venue for our wedding. The house was amazing with the freedom to create our perfect day. Every guest has expressed how beautiful the house was and we were delighted with our stay before, during and after the wedding. The week before, leading up to the day, we had the run of the house and got to spend the days in the spacious grounds and the evenings curled up in front of the fire in the library. It was great to have the time to unwind and spend time with our family and friends in such a gorgeous house. The night of the wedding was wonderful we could set up the dining room to our taste and absolutely loved the outcome and we danced the night away not worrying about what time we would have to leave as we were staying in the house!. Thank you again for allowing us the space and freedom to make it all simply amazing.
