The Normans is a lovely North Yorkshire wedding venue situated just outside the village of Bilbrough, only a 20-minute drive from York and 35 minutes from Leeds city centre. This 18th-century farm venue is the epitome of ‘country cool.’ Husband-wife team Oliver and Laura Robinson tied the knot at The Normans in 2014. Their wedding was such a wonderful and joyous event that it inspired them to transform part of the farm into a stylish, all-weather event space that perfectly combines rustic farm features and state-of-the-art lighting and design.
Facilities and Capacity
At The Normans, everything centres around the magnificent south-facing Courtyard, which features beautifully manicured lawns, a slick central water element, modern integrated seating, and twinkling fairy lights. You and your party can then make your way to the fully licensed Ceremony Barn, where you will find a high-vaulted ceiling supported by handsome wooden trusses, exposed-brick walls, and a cascading curtain of fairy lights. After the ceremony, you can take some time to sit, chat, and relax in the quirky Cow Stalls or enjoy a quick drink in the Tack Room Bar before adjourning to the Grain Shed to dine and dance the night away. The chic Normans Cottage, situated just a few steps from the wedding venue, is the perfect bolthole for you and your new spouse to relax and enjoy your first night as a married couple. Close family and friends, meanwhile, can check in at The Granary - a beautifully appointed three-bedroom cottage.

Oliver and Laura know that there are so many factors to consider when planning your big day, and they want to help you out by keeping things as simple as possible. They don’t charge per person because it doesn’t matter to them whether you invite 60 or 140 guests. Instead, they offer one exclusive use package that includes personal and professional planning support and day-of coordination services, tables and chairs, ambient lighting across the venue, an optional pop-up bar, a dance floor, indoor heating, and washroom facilities. Absolute perfection
We got married at the Normans 6th April 2024 and it honestly couldn’t have been better. The communication in the run up to the wedding was brilliant, being able to go to the venue at 12 to set up the day before was also a great experience, Oliver and Sharon were able to offer amazing reassurance for any questions. Also, Dave was on hand for any practical issues too which we really appreciated. This allowed us both just to enjoy getting ready in the morning, so stress of worrying about putting signs out/placing bud vases etc. The day itself was perfect, the setting is stunning! The day ran smoothly and we just had the best day. Everything was perfect for us; thank you team Norman’s!

Truly amazing staff and venue!
Got married at The Normans in November 2023. Cannot speak more highly of the staff and the venue. The venue is incredibly well thought out and the staff were superb from the initial viewing right through to the days after the wedding. Our suppliers commented on how impressed they were with the staff at The Normans, going above and beyond what they've seen at other venues.

Best day ever!
We would recommend The Normans to anyone wanting a rustic farm aesthetic, from the very start Oliver and the team were so helpful and responsive to our questions. On the day Oliver was on hand to guide us through the day and make sure that everything was running smoothly. We were able to access the venue the day before to get everything set up, and the day after the wedding all our decorations had been packaged up for us and left in the cow stalls to pack back into the cars - super easy! The venue itself is stunning and doesn't need much in the way of decoration, but it's also easy to put your own stamp on the place. We stayed in the on-site cottages the night before the wedding, which were really handy with the bridal cottage having a purpose built dressing room with plenty of mirrors, natural light and plug sockets! The other cottage was a perfect base for the groom to get ready with the best man and his family too and made it super easy when the registrar came to speak to us before the ceremony. Highly recommend The Normans, wish we could do it all over again!

Wow!! The Perfect Wedding Venue.
Firstly WOW what a place to get married. If your looking for a venue with it all set in one place this is certainly the venue for you. The ceremony barn is incredible with its character and the perfect backdrop to say your I Do’s. With everything based around the central courtyard there is so many amazing spaces to move around the day. The Grain Shed where we had our wedding breakfast is the perfect space for everyone to enjoy their food and dance away the night. The bar is perfectly placed next to the dance floor that keeps your guests dancing all the way to the end of the night. The whole venue gives you the option to have as many or as little decorations as you like. We went very minimal because the venue certainly does the talking.
The Catering they have at The Normans provided by Hog and Apple is soooo good. We went with there famous wooden sharing boards and the food was delicious. We had a lot of people coming up to us saying this is some of the best wedding food they had ever had.
The bridal suit was perfect to get ready in, there was all the facilities that you needed and a beautiful room where the bride and bridemaids could get ready, with plenty of space for hair and makeup artists. Having accommodation on site made us feel so at ease knowing that everything was in one place.

Beautiful venue and excellent staff members!!
The Normans is a beautiful wedding venue and it was hard to beat in comparison to other venues around North Yorkshire! Oliver, Sharon and the team at The Normans were amazing and so helpful to us leading up to the wedding and on the day! We wish you the best of everything in the future and we hope to visit again to enjoy it as guests!

Wedding of dreams
If you gave me all the money in the world I would still choose The Normans, perfect from start to finish. Purely amazing, from the second we met Oliver and his team to the second we left the day after the wedding it was fantastic. I hope we have many more weddings to attend here as I want to re-visit it again and again. Look no further than the fantastic Normans Barn.

The most incredible venue - EVER!
You know you have picked an amazing venue when several guests and people who have viewed your photos afterwards enquire about booking their special day there and I completely get it! Our guests agreed that our venue was incredible, some commenting they could live there (I sure could!)
The team were brilliant from start to finish, going above and beyond and it was absolutely flawless.
The cottage was a brilliant hub to get ready in and take some wonderful photos and again made the day easy and stress free.
There are just soooo many opportunities and places for great pictures, and despite a mixed weather day the team made the venue work for us.
The space is incredible, well kept and minimal decoration is needed as the venue does all the talking.
I cannot recommend the venue and team more! Oliver looked after us on the day, and wow, he has this nailed. What a guy!

No stress dream venue
We had the best time celebrating our wedding at the Normans - the venue itself is gorgeous, but the team and service are exceptional. From our first viewing through to booking, confirming details, pre-event logistics and inane questions, Oliver (and Sharon!) were incredibly responsive, helpful, understanding and accommodating. When speaking to other suppliers, the feedback was consistent that the Normans is one of their favourite venues to work at, which made us confident we picked the right location.
The day was a dream - and I can't emphasise enough that there was ZERO stress. Everything ran like clockwork, and we didn't need to think about a single detail - Oliver and the team managed all the timings, vendors, guests, details, requirements - EVERYTHING. The fact the venue itself is gorgeous is an added bonus (if you're after stunning photos, look no further). Also, having onsite accommodation for the bridal party made the day before and morning of so relaxed.
We can't recommend the venue enough - if we could do it all over again we would without hesitation.

Perfect in everyway
The Norman's was the wedding venue of our dreams. We booked nearly two years in advance due to the pandemic, and they were so attentive throughout. We did a virtual tour with Oliver, then they helped book for us to see the venue in person, and were super accommodating in the build up to the big day.
3 day access took so much stress away, and the team helped us out with supplying a couple of things which hadn't gone according to plan. The bridal cottage is lovely and they were able to clear up and have our stuff ready for collection the next morning.
On the day, Oliver was quietly in the background making sure things went according to schedule, and making sure I (the groom) was as relaxed as possible. All the suppliers had a good time too and our guests gave such lovely feedback.

The Normans = The Best Wedding Venue in the World 🌎
Our wedding was everything we wanted and more and every single guest commented on what an incredible venue it was.
Oliver's calm, reassuring nature was hugely appreciated by both of us during the nervous moments on the day itself, and he put us at ease immediately. No request was too much to ask, and the whole team kept the day running smoothly.
We know it's a cliche but the day really did disappear in the blink of an eye, and if we could do it all again we would. What The Normans provides is important, unique, and special, and it is run by an incredibly talented bunch who don't miss a single detail and it shows!

They created the dream and stress free day everyone dreams off
Oliver and his team will be remembered as part of our family; our day was effortless, intimate, magical, supportive and seamless, all thanks to The Normans and this stunning venue. My words will not be able to describe the fantastic work this venue and team does.
We fell in love with the venue on an icy and foggy January day! Twinkly lights shining through the fog and the chatter of our teeth, immediately we knew this is the one.
Trying to find a post pandemic venue that met our vision and had availability was near impossible for us we thought, most of the venues we looked at in the area where getting ‘old’ and tattered, they didn’t have a vibe and a intimacy that the Norman’s did.
As you would expect from a beautiful venue, they were incredibly busy but could squeeze us in for a wedding on a cheeky Monday in August this year. Everyone travelled to spend a long weekend in York and Mondays as now an awesome day to get married.
From suppliers recommendations before and on the big day nothing was too much to ask, everything had been thought of, chased, contacted and the support was discreet yet phenomenal, even the mother in laws were calm!!
Due to the magnificence of the venue we didn’t need to dress our venue with lavish accessories (which kept our costs down).
We had free reign for photos in the height of harvest on the farm and did get the most stunning pictures because of the backdrop.
Oliver took the nerves, panic and worry out of our day and the run-up and ensured with Doug from Hog and Apple everything and anything was accounted for and ran seamlessly, so as a newly married couple, we could carry on with the day stress-free and with a drink in hand!
We will always be grateful for the Norman's and this venue with forever be close to our hearts. We wanted a chilled, happy, beautiful venue which had a Yorkshire vibe and everything was perfect!!

Best Day Ever
This venue is amazing. So much space for guests inside and outside and it’s so beautiful. We had so many great comments on the venue and food. We really did have the best day and everything ran so smoothly. I can’t think of one think to complain about. Only wish I could do it all again.

Breathtaking venue
I found The Normans on Instagram a few weeks after I got engaged and fell in love even on the screen, when we went to view the venue I couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else!
From the word go, Sharon and Oliver were so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for them. They answered any questions we had quickly and let us come to visit the venue whenever we wanted even if was just for a quick 10-15 minute brainstorm.
Sharon and her husband Dave made setting up so easy, and they just made you feel so welcome and made life setting up a wedding with an 8 month old so much easier. Whenever you see them it’s like you’re part of the family rather than someone that’s there just for your wedding day.
On the day, Sharon was absolutely fantastic, we had a couple of incidents that were out of our control and she made sure none of this effected us and dealt with them so well which she didn’t need to do. Everything ran so smoothly and there was nothing we had to question during the day and Sharon was there whenever we needed her.
The biggest appeal to us about The Normans was that everything was built around the beautiful courtyard and there was different areas for the guests to go. All the guests commented about how beautiful the venue was and how well the day went.
We stayed in the Bridal Cottage and the new guest accommodation for two nights and they were absolutely perfect, and the Bridal Cottage has the best space for everyone to get ready.
Even on the Sunday, everything was packed back into boxes for us just to load into the car.
If you love fairy lights, being able to dance on the bar to your heart’s content and the best staff for your wedding day then The Normans is for you.

Perfect venue!
Sharon, Oliver and everybody at the Norman’s were absolutely incredible. Having first visited the venue in 2019, it exceeded our expectations. We knew it was the one after the first look around. Oliver was very welcoming and happy to show us around as many times as we needed and let us bring family to see the venue too. Throughout the planning stages the Norman’s were always quick to reply to emails with any questions we had.
Coming up to the wedding, it was great we had a whole day beforehand to set up and Sharon was on hand to go through everything. We had lots of decorations which needed to be turned on on the day and nothing was too much trouble. The Norman’s really put my mind at ease and it was great being able to stay on site and just walk a few steps to get married.
The day itself ran perfectly and Sharon was always on hand if we had any queries.
We loved the flow of the day through the venue and our guests commented about how amazing the venue was.

Professional, friendly team and a breathtaking venue
Oliver, Laura and the team could not do enough for the whole wedding party and their experience meant that everything went smoothly, and we could relax and completely enjoy the most amazing day. All the staff were very pleasant, polite and efficient and totally focused on making the day special. The facilities are top notch, and the converted farm buildings have been sympathetically renovated to give a rustic feel with the wow factor! The Hog and Apple caterers provided the food and drinks throughout the day from start to finish and the service and quality were excellent.
