If you’re looking for a reception venue close to Cambridge city centre, with on-site car parking, a cool contemporary style and gardens to boot, Murray Edwards College ticks all the boxes.
The modern architecture makes for a stylish setting, with a variety of rooms and spaces decorated in a range of styles so there’s something to suit everyone.
The light and airy rooms can be set up in different ways and the dining hall is the college’s star attraction, with its spectacular dome ceiling.
You can host your whole reception here, with as many as 270 guests seated banquet-style for the wedding breakfast or 140 guests seated on round tables with a dance floor, DJ/Band and bar in the same room.
The Fellows’ Suite, is ideal for more intimate wedding receptions. A bright and vibrant private space, the rooms centre around artwork from the New Hall Art Collection making it another unique backdrop for photographs.
The recently refurbished drawing room leads through to a dining room seating up to 70 guests banquet style. Both rooms overlook the Fellows’ Garden. A private lawn with a picturesque pond and wildflowers in a quiet secluded corner of the college, ideal for al fresco drinks and canapes post-vows – or even some jolly garden games.
Our Head Chef Joe Dean and his experienced team are on hand to provide ideas, discuss options and help with planning beautiful, delicious and seasonal food for you and your guests, delivering modern British cuisine, with an eye on sustainability and seasonality. As there is no fixed formula for a wedding, our pleasant and attentive front of house team will ensure your day runs smoothly.
Dating back to 1954 and designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bonn (who also designed The Barbican in London), the college buildings offer a stunning backdrop for your wedding photographs - with lots of exposed brick and modern architecture.
Although it’s not licensed for ceremonies, Murray Edwards College is just a five-minute walk from the Shire Hall register office, so you can tie the knot and celebrate here afterwards. Of course, there’s also the freedom to incorporate special cultural or religious elements into the day too.
Drink and canapé receptions can be served in Fountain Court Walkway, with beautiful views over the illuminated fountains at night-time and of attractive Orchard Court.
Unlike some Cambridge colleges, you’re welcome to walk on the grass! Orchard Court has a long lawn, surrounded by pretty borders and sculptures from renowned artists, ideal for larger gatherings.
• Multiple reception options able to host between 70 and 270 guests
• Impressive gardens recently included in the Telegraph book about gardens
• Hundreds of amazing photo opportunities
• Well situated with good access on the edge of Cambridge city centre
