Embraced by pristine countryside, Michelham Priory is a beautiful historic wedding venue of over 800 years old nestled just outside Hailsham, East Sussex. Surrounded by seven acres of wonderful gardens, you can enjoy quality food and wine on a stunning private island with only your closest for company. Open to as few as 25 weddings per year, the team welcomes you to make this secluded, romantic setting your own for an illustrious wedding worthy of your union.

Facilities and Capacity

History begins the moment you step through the 14th-century Gatehouse and walk past the Tudor Mansion to the Elizabethan Barn and moat terrace. Every step of the way—at every beautiful sight—your wedding day will become part of Michelham Priory's collection of milestones and memories. The venue offers three incredible wedding ceremony spaces, with the Elizabethan Barn being its most spacious. Brimming with original features and aged charm, this warm rustic setting can hold up to 120 people for the nuptials or the reception. Smaller weddings will find more fitting scenery in the Priors Chamber. Situated on the first floor of the Tudor Mansion, this intimate site effortlessly accommodates up to 60 people. In-between events, you and yours can explore the grounds and take in the pleasantries of Cuckmere Valley on a magical moat walk. And, with the South Downs within easy reach, this grade-listed site is ideal for those travelling from Brighton, London, Surrey, and South Kent to join in your destination wedding.

Services Offered

At Michelham Priory, the team cherishes the fact that no two weddings are ever the same. Allowing only one wedding per weekend, they are open and eager to work closely with you to create your dream day. As part of the attentive and friendly service you will receive, an on-site wedding co-ordinator will be your right hand throughout. Alongside this, the venue's catering partners offer a taste of Sussex through a choice of private picnics, sumptuous banquets, and more.

Adam & Steph

Michelham priory is an incredible venue! It’s beyond beautiful and the staff, Gemma and one of her colleagues (although were a few changes throughout our process) were amazing! The scaffolding originally was an issue but come the wedding day there wasn’t a thought about it and didn’t spoil our day.

Amazing Historical Wedding Venue

We just had our wedding at Michelham last Saturday, and all our guests commented on how amazing the venue was. It’s a beautiful place with a lot of character, and a great place to get married if you’re history buffs like us!
The team at Michelham were so friendly and easy to get along with, and genuinely really cared about our day and how it went. I would recommend this venue to anyone getting married

Poor communication, lack of professionalism, dirty

A beautiful venue it’s a shame everything else lets it down.
- Turn over of over 5 event managers with no handover in between
- Poor communication throughout
- The venue was dirty and not cleaned before use, we had to clean it ourselves on the Friday
- On the day before the wedding we were informed there were no staff to set up for the ceremony and that on the day of the wedding we would have to move the chairs ourselves from the ceremony for the meal when it had previously been outlined Michelham staff would do this
- The microphone was broken on the morning of the wedding
