Discover beautiful venues for a perfect Italian wedding
Set high above the Bay of Naples, home to lemon orchards providing the fruit for the city’s famous limoncello, Sorrento’s beautiful location has drawn visitors for centuries. The gateway to the Amalfi Coast, you can see out to the island of Capri, while Vesuvius and Monte Faito make a dramatic frame to the red-roofed white houses rising up from the sea.
And while there are only three locations which allow civil ceremonies, you’ll still be spoiled for choice if you’re planning a wedding abroad in Sorrento. The medieval Cloisters of St Francis are the most popular, the monastery building dating back to the 13th century while summer weddings can take place outdoors in the beautiful gardens. Or the Museo Correale still has antique furniture decorating the luxurious 17th century villa as well as a citrus grove and ancient trees giving shade in its gardens.
For sea views as you say your vows, head 10 minutes out of the centre of Sorrento itself to Villa Fondi, a 17th century clifftop villa which looks out onto the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, with olive trees and palms in the botanical gardens – you can also hold the ceremony on the panoramic terrace and indoors, along with the gardens themselves.
Thanks to its luxurious hotels, some with kids clubs and rooftop pools, Sorrento is also a great base whether you’re travelling as a family, looking for plenty of pampering or seeking some nightlife. Or head out to the hills, where you’ll find elaborate reception venues and villas to escape to.
