A colossal thank you to all the staff at Doxford Barns. Your venue is utterly sublime and our wedding was everything we dreamed of and so much more. A particular thank you to Karen, David and John. You are a credit to the organisation. John - we must pass on countless compliments on the exquisite food. Same time, same place, (same weather) next week?! Big love, Jo and Graham Kelly xxx

Thank you all so much for a wonderful wedding and weekend. You are a marvellous team and even managed the weather! All our guests loved the venue and the food, out of this world. Paying with the puppies was just the icing on the cake, I hope they are all accounted for today! Many thanks again for a fantastic wedding, a very happy mother of the bride.

This turned out to be one special day in every way. The venue is breathtakingly beautiful and the food was absolutely fantastic - from the traditional roast beef at the wedding feast, to the 'full English' the following morning. Perfect. Your chef knows what he's doing. Superb.

A huge thank you to Doxford Barns and all your team - Karen, Jess and John especially. You made the whole weekend run so smoothly and we couldn't have asked for more. We had the most wonderful, magical weekend and the wedding of my dreams! John's food surpassed all expectations and was incredible - from dinner on Friday to the whopping great breakfast on Sunday - much needed by some sore heads! Jess went above and beyond driving us to the lake for pics and Karen was a calming influence on a nervous bride! I was so sad to drive away on Sunday from the most beautiful, romantic venue in the north east! Thank you thank you thank you!

Very disappointing
Venue Service

By Patrick Wainwright, on 08 Aug 2016Date of Wedding - 30 Apr 2016

In 300 words… Alcohol jumped 20% from prices we were originally given, two weeks before wedding day We'd arranged a marquee to go on the grass outside, agreed with the venue & paid for. The night before we arrived were told that we would not be allowed to put it up. Threshing hall wasn't cleaned from the previous wedding until Saturday lunchtime. I was still setting up the ceremony venue with my best man, just 30 minutes before the ceremony. A sign was put on the threshing hall door saying the heaters would not be switched on. It was so cold I could see my breath. I had to instruct them to turn them on. No MoC. With the exception of being asked if we wanted to be introduced, we had to do everything ourselves including cake cutting & first dance. Luckily one of the bridesmaids stepped in. Painfully slow food service. Two guests had to go into the kitchen to ask them to serve dessert!! Completely disinterested bar staff Poor acoustics Many couples looking round the venue on the Sunday from 9.30. So much for the venue being exclusive to us!! Ultimately everything was far too much effort for the management who came across very rude, incompetent and was a needlessly stressful day that has left a sour taste in our mouths. Quite simply they just didn't want us there. As we weren't willing to splash out on all the extras that were offered (£150 to switch the threshing hall lights on!!) they put zero effort in with us, completely disinterested. A five minute chat on arrival was the only face to face contact we had all weekend with the management. Unfortunately whether they like it or not, the customer comes first. Would we recommend? Not at all.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am extremely saddened to read this after you were one of the first couples to book with myself. I would like to make reference to the points raised. Firstly, the marquee could not be erected on sodden grass; this would create a mud bath for other guests therefore the paved area was deemed more appropriate (not to mention your guests shoes!). The Threshing Hall is cleaned once all florists and guests have finished dressing the room, hence cleaned on the day of your ceremony. The heating system in the Threshing Hall heats extremely quickly therefore we don't switch the system on until 30 minutes prior to a ceremony, as the groom you are the first to enter the hall as you must meet your registrar before guests. I believe the sign you saw was left from an open day and was removed before your ceremony. I have checked the diary and there were no show arounds until your departure time. The permanent festoon lights in the Threshing Hall has helped reduce costs for our customers. The previous charge was £495 per wedding with the majority of this cost being for the installation and dismantling costs from the 'Festoon Lighting' company. I therefore negotiated to keep the lights as a permanent fixture to minimise costs for my guests. A £345 saving! Your comments about my team and myself being incompetent and rude are your opinion. An opinion I believe to be unjust. Regarding your drinks costs, sadly costs do increase over time, I do recollect a phone call agreeing to reduce the costs to assist you; your review fails to mention this. I am sorry you feel we did not deliver; you are most certainly the minority who hasn't been thrilled with their wedding experience at Doxford. I wish you both the best in the future.

THE MOST AMAZING WEDDING!! There is not one thing which could have improved our day and so much of that is down to the team at Doxford! You really did go above and beyond in making our day unique and perfect for us. Every single member of the team were SO lovely and incredibly helpful! We had soooooo many difficult requests we were sure we would eventually get a "no" from someone but alas, we didn't!! Every single need of ours was met with the loveliest of smiles and with apparent ease (although we are sure they were not easy!!!) The food was perfect - everyone commented on it and we are still talking about it now and craving MORE PIE! . Again, we had quite difficult requirements for the food but we were never made to feel that way which was extremely appreciated. The cottages were so perfect and so many people have commented on the comfy beds and how sweet it was to receive an Easter egg and hot cross buns! Such a lovely touch which everyone appreciated. Thank you also for our Champagne! You are all so thoughtful. Those little touches just made it so magical - we felt like royalty! You have created something incredible at Doxford- an outstandingly beautiful wedding venue, with the style and glamour for royalty and the home from home comforts which makes it not scary or daunting. The staff feel like family and the venue feels like home .We will never forget our perfect wedding weekend with you nor all your hard efforts. We really hope to see you again in the future as you became our friend.

Part of the family

Doxford Barns have a strong family vibe and we felt very much a part of that by the end. We left Doxford Barns as husband and wife and never thought we would have made friends with the people at the venue. There seems to be a barrier when you go to other venues that everything is strictly professional, not at Doxford Barns. We struck up a friendship and because of that it made our day even more unforgettable and easier. Thank you to Doxford Barns, incredible venue, incredible people and you have left us and our guests with the most amazing memories!
