This lovingly restored historic property is just a short drive from the heart of the stunning English Lake District. Surrounded by 14 acres of beautiful grounds, this elite four-star establishment is a must for an upscale country wedding.
Facilities and Capacity
Six-time winner of the best wedding venue in Cumbria, Abbey House Hotel and Gardens is awash with exquisite event rooms and 40 plush suites that can handle every stage of your big day. You can start the day in one of three elegant Bridal Suites before making your way to the ceremony location. The choice remains yours whether your union should take place within the landscaped grounds, one of the unique wedding suites, or perhaps in a local church. Alternatively, you can exchange your vows in the 12th-century Furness Abbey ruins, situated at the end of the hotel grounds in the Vale of Nightshade. The Great Hall and the Cavendish Suite offer lavish blank canvases to unfurl your nuptials and wedding breakfast in full splendour. For those transfixed by the surrounding natural beauty, the venue is wonderfully suited to al fresco celebrations. Weather permitting, you can move seamlessly from the ceremony to an open-air drinks reception amidst picturesque woodland, Champagne glass in hand. Following your wedding breakfast, the celebrations can continue into the night with music or entertainment of your choosing.

These comprise late availability offerings, a winter wonderland edition, and a premium package for a minimum of 80 guests. Our Special Day.
From start to finish, the staff at Abbey House were attentive, professional and responsive to our requirements. There was regular contact, and catch ups, and when it came to the day itself, everything went like clockwork - the Events Manager, Rob, was on hand to calm any last minute nerves, and to make sure that everyone was in the right place at the right time. The room for the ceremony, the Great Hall, was beautifully laid out, and the change from ceremonial space to dining room, was done as if by magic. The hotel, and grounds, are, to say the least, magnificent, and both inside and outside, are perfect for photographs or al-fresco dining, should the weather permit. All-in-all, the idea place for a wedding.

Absolutely amazing!
With giving ourselves only 6 months to plan a wedding we knew available dates would be minimal. However, as always Abbey House didn't disappoint. From getting our dream wedding booked to it happening 6 months later it couldn't have been smoother sailing!
The wedding team are amazing and kept us on track over the months of what we needed to organise and when. We wanted very minimal decor with it being Christmas and the amazing decorations at abbey house already being up and the team listened and delivered!
It was also our son's birthday and the team helped set up an amazing kids corner to help him relax and celebrate his birthday.
On the day I couldn't have been a more chilled out Bride knowing I was in safe hands.
The waiting on staff, bar staff and general staff around during the day couldn't have made the day anymore perfect for ourselves and our guests, they went the extra mile and allowed us to embrace the outdoor Christmas decorations during a last minute planning of sparkler photos.
The housekeeping staff also helped family members leave some memorable decor and gifts in our room as a lovely surprise 🩷

Amazing wedding at Abbey House Hotel
We got married at Abbey House Hotel and Gardens in October 2023 and could not have asked for a better day.
We chose Abbey House after attending a wedding open day in Autumn 2022 and being very impressed with the room set-up and wedding coordinators Laura and Lauren.
We then booked our wedding and Laura and Lauren were always on hand to guide us through every step of the process. They took time to get to know us as a couple and had a real understanding of what we wanted from our wedding day.
As Abbey House has strong relationships with local suppliers, Laura and Lauren were able to work with others on our behalf, which took a lot of stress out of the wedding planning.
On the day itself, Laura, Lauren and the team at Abbey House were absolutely amazing and nothing was too much trouble for them. They ensured we and our guests had a fantastic wedding day in a gorgeous setting with excellent food and entertainment.

The entire wedding team are amazing!!
We have just had our wedding at Abbey House and all I can say is thank you so much. You have gone above and beyond our expectations and just made such a difference to our day. The wedding team have been absolutely amazing, nothing was too much trouble and you went out of your way to make sure we had everything we needed. We are so grateful to you all and can never thank you enough. We have enjoyed our day massively and a big part of that was down to you all. Everyone was talking about how amazing the venue was and how thoughtful the staff were. Really can’t get over the day at all!
The hotel was amazing, so clean and well kept. The food was delicious and the grounds are just beautiful. We will definitely be revisiting this venue to stay, eat and even celebrate!

We chose this place for our wedding venue as it’s so picturesque.
The staff were so helpful from the very first visit, nothing was too much trouble when I was wanting to add this for our special day.
When the day came they made you feel like you were the only couple in the world that mattered. Everything went as smoothly as it could with the master of ceremonies announcing everything that was coming next.
It was the best day of our lives and I’d love to do it all again.

Wedding Team are amazing from start to finish
From the moment we met Laura from the wedding team we knew we were in safe hands. And even though she was away on our actual big day she made sure we had everything we needed & met Lauren who would be looking after us instead & Cameron (Cam the man). Best day ever planned to perfection by the Best Team.

Amazing venue for a dream wedding 🤩
Got married here 11.11.18 and we return every year for our anniversary we are in love with the place. Everyone couldn’t do enough to ensure our day was perfect and that it really was! If I could relive a day all over again it would be this day the venue is unreal the staff the food the decor there is nothing you can fault. I loved both rooms the great hall and the cavendish suite so we got wed in the great hall then the meal and night reception in the suite the decor was just breathtaking blossom trees everywhere with glass lit baubles starlit ceiling the room was just amazing every bit of the day was there is a video a guest made us on YouTube Mr & mrs gilmore by Nicole Robertson that shows the room all dressed I cannot recommend this venue anymore if I tried!

Just the most perfect day.
From day one and the first enquiry until the day after our wedding it was faultless. All the team we so professional and everything surpassed our expectations.
The day was simply perfect.
Nothing was too much trouble.
The venue was exquisite and the wedding breakfast was first class.
Bridal suite was so very luxurious and every member of staff was so helpful polite and professional.
Photographs don’t really do it justice but we would have no hesitation in recommending Abbey House for a wedding.

Absolutely amazing!
We were married in August 2021 and the day couldn't have been more perfect!
Abbey House wedding team listend to our ideas and customised our Crystal wedding package to perfection.
Our price in total came to around 13k, this was for approximately 80 guests, 15 more added to the evening reception, we also bought 30 bedrooms that we sold to guests who needed to stay the night. (Everything that was included in the package was listed online, and with a budget for cake and invites included. Anything we didnt use in the package was altered and spent elsewhere).
The 13k also included our completely customised day as we payed an extra 1.5k for a styling package, to have our ceremony in the Furness Abbey grounds.
(We also paid another 1.5k to English Heritage to draw up a contract for this to be able to happen).
The morning of the wedding we had a quick offical ceremony in the Great Hall with our parents and witnesses.
Then in the afternoon the main ceremony/blessing took place in the Chapter House in Furness Abbey with all our guests. This was styled perfectly by Abbey House and it was exactly as I had imagined, they even made customised admittance tickets to give our wedding guests on arrival to the hotel to be able to get into the Abbey.
Afterwards our reception took place back in Abbey House in the Cavendish suite which was again styled to perfection by the wedding team, and we had canapés and drinks in the gardens whilst the evening reception was set up.
Everything ran smoothly and was much more than we ever imagined.
Abbey House will always be my favourite venue, we stay every anniversary and often visit Oscars restaurant for a meal.
We can 100% reccomened Abbey House and their fantastic team.

Amazing wedding venue and staff
We got married here in August 2023 we had a small intimate wedding of 40 guests at the most amazing venue in the area. Lauren couldn't of done any more for us very helpful and gave us lots of advice. We live in Barrow-in-Furness and knew this was the venue for us attending friends weddings in the past . The grounds are gorgeous and if your not lucky with the weather the inside of the hotel is just as lovely . Our day was perfect anyone getting married needs to look here they won't be disappointed

Perfect wedding

Wedding celebration
Just got home from a stay here for my nieces wedding. Everything was just perfect, nothing was too much trouble for all of the staff. Very relaxed atmosphere but so professional and friendly. Food was excellent, have not had a bad meal the entire stay. Cannot recommend this place enough, you have made a very special occasion absolutely amazing, thank you.
