Speech by Scott Fleming

Your website was a great help to me when writing my own groom speech. I therefore hope my speech can be just as useful to other future grooms. Best of luck

Thank you Duncan for those very kind words.

Good evening everybody!

Nine years ago I started working at Sign Here and was basically thrown in at the deep end, having to learn a new computer system and worse still having to deal with customers. I was a very shy, quiet, young man at the time but gradually I came out of my shell and grew in confidence to be able to deal with even the most annoying customers. You simply pass them on to Kirsty. Seriously though, if it wasn't for the help and support of my colleagues then I don't think I would ever of had the confidence to ask Amanda out and the courage to fight for her heart. So standing up in front of all my family and friends today should be dawdle.

I would like to start by saying “On behalf of my wife and I”… We would like to thank you all for being here, to share our wedding day with us. Thanks for the cards and fabulous gifts we have received, they are much appreciated, and I hope you have all enjoyed the day so far.

Before I start with my thank-you's, have you all seen the “fun cameras” on your tables? As the card says: Don't Miss Those Special Moments – Pass this camera around and let everyone capture their own special memories. There is however an additional camera I have here for someone I know who likes to take a pic or two. Marion, please come up and accept your camera for the night. It's got your name on it! Come on, your not normally this shy, Marion, get yourself up here!

There are a number of people I would like to thank, so please bear with me. Firstly, I would like to thank both my parents:- mum, dad, thank you for all the love and support you have given me all these years. Without you I wouldn't be the man I am today – I know Amanda is thankful for my cooking and DIY skills, even though I set the cooker on fire and flooded the bathroom in the same week! From the first day I introduced Amanda to you both she has been welcomed into the family, thank you for your kindness. I would also like to thank you for all your help today and throughout the planning of our wedding. Even after Amanda dragged you both round every wedding show including a day at the SECC. So to my mum, as a small thank you we would like to present you with this bouquet of flowers.

Before we go on I would like to mention a few people who are sadly not with us today. Firstly I would like to mention Amanda's Great Aunts Isa and Olive who sadly passed away last year who unfortunately I never got the chance to meet. I would also like to give a special mention to Auntie Annie who also sadly passed away last year. This lady was a remarkable woman who adored Amanda and someone who helped make today a very special day. I therefore would like to make a toast to our absent friends. Ladies and Gentleman, would you please raise your glasses? “To absent friends”.

I would like to thank Rev. Drummond for a beautiful service and for all the help he has gave us leading up to today. I would like to say special thanks to Shona, for a beautiful reading and for all your help with the invitations. My thanks also, to Willie for agreeing to sing, which I'm sure everyone would agree added something a little special at the signing of the register.

And a big thanks to Terry and Marion, our ushers. Although neither of them have any prior experience as bouncers, it's fairly self evident that they've done a terrific job at handling the paparazzi today and I for one, haven't seen a single Hello! Magazine photographer all day. Well done girls.

And now onto my gorgeous new wife. Amanda – you look absolutely stunning today.
I want everyone here to know how lucky I feel to be here right now. Amanda is beautiful, intelligent, funny, caring – the list is endless but unfortunately I can't read the rest of her writing!

But seriously though, Amanda, I love you in so many ways and for so many reasons, because you know me and understand me like no one else ever could, because you believe in my dreams and care about my feelings, because you make me laugh so hard and smile so often, because you have a way of bringing out the very best in me, but mostly because you're my very best friend, my soul mate. I love you with all my heart. Thank you for marrying me and making me the happiest man alive and for loving me as much as I love you. I know this is the start of many, many happy years together.

Before I hand you over to my best man John, on behalf of Amanda and I, we would like to say a big thank you to Yvonne and Kirsty, our Bridesmaids. I'm sure that you will all agree with me when I say that they both look amazing today. They also did an excellent job of looking after Amanda, not only today but on her nice, quiet, refrained hen nights. Yes, there were more than one hen night or should that be hen weekends. Thankyou Girls!

Ladies and gentlemen, would you please be upstanding as I'd like to propose a toast to the Bridesmaids. “The Bridesmaids!”
