Thank you Lawson and Nick

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I hope everyone's enjoying this very special day so far, for those of you who don't know me my name is Lewis and I'm Nick's brother and best man.

I'd like to start by thanking Lawson and Carol for hosting what so far has been a beautiful wedding and I would like to say a big thank you to the bridesmaids for today. As you will all agree they have done a great job and all look fantastic. They are only eclipsed by Katie herself, who I'm sure you'll agree looks stunning today, and Katie, since you and Nick are married now, I think that its only right that I give you this (Grant if you would do the honours) you've got a Mr potato head at home, so here you go now you have the complete set!

On behalf of the whole wedding party, I'd like to thank Nick & Katie for asking us to be involved in the most important day of their lives. I know they've both put a huge amount of effort in to the planning of this wedding, especially Katie, and I can only hope that, apart from this speech, everything else will have exceeded their expectations.

Most of you won't know that Nick was my best man when I got married, he delivered a terrific speech and didn't really take the mick out of me very much that day….by the end of this speech he'll probably wish that he did.

When it comes to choosing a best man it's a difficult task and sometimes one that people really don't want to do.  Nick asked someone who was reliable but they couldn't do it, so then he asked someone good looking but they also couldn't do it, then he asked someone good looking and charming, but again they couldn't do it. However once he asked me for the 4th time I gave in and accepted.

“Seriously though Nick thank you for asking me it's an honour, and on doing a bit of research, I discovered that I had three responsibilities today.

First, I had to make sure that Nick was properly dressed for the occasion, and to that I say, Nick looks good, job done.

The second responsibility was to get Nick to the ceremony on time, and to that I say, Nick was at the altar exactly when he was needed.

And third, it was my job to guarantee that the groom arrives at the ceremony totally sober, well I suppose… two out of three ain't bad.”

You know during the service today I couldn't help thinking it's funny how history repeats itself, I mean it was 25 years ago that Lawson and Carol were sending their daughter Katie to bed with a dummy………and it's happening all over again today.

At this point in my speech I would have liked to have told you about the stag do, but the law of the stag doesn't allow me to do this, what happened in Benidorm stays in Benidorm and believe me you don't want to know what went on trust me, plus Nick's solicitor has advised caution until all the charges are fully investigated.

Nick as a married man myself I would like to pass on a few words of advice

1. Always remember to say the three words any wife always wants to hear (pause)… You're right dear

2. Never ever go to sleep on an argument – Stay up all night until you've won.

3. A happy marriage is one of give and take – The husband always gives and the wife always takes.

I've got some messages from some people back home who couldn't make it today

First – Congratulations to you both, im gutted I cant make it today, may all your ups and downs be between the sheets – From Dean Calcutt

Second – Im sorry I couldn't be there today Nick and Katie but congratulations to you both, as you know I had other commitments and the big Englishman cant let the bars in Valencia down, adios – From Uncle Alan

And finally Nick please don't be a stranger, Love from destiny and delta from the fantasy lounge.

When researching what I should say in my speech today Its advised that I take advantage of being Nick's older brother, as you the guests would normally like to hear about the mischief that we got up to when we were younger, like when Nick threw a shoe aimed at me but missed and hit my Mam on the back of her head or the time me and my friends hung him on a fence by his boxer shorts, but I thought that it would be better and slightly more embarrassing for Nick if I just showed you all instead so here we go…Nick I think you're going to like the choice of music (powerpoint presentation shown to guests).

Hope that wasn't too embarrassing Nick, all jokes aside, I want to thank you for being that best brother anyone could ask for, you've always been there when we have needed you, you're a great Uncle and I do wish you and Katie a lifetime of happiness.

I am going to leave you with a poem now

Today is a day you will always remember

The greatest in anyone's life

You'll start off the day just two people in love

And end it as Husband and Wife

It's a brand new beginning, the start of a journey

With moments to cherish and treasure

And although there'll be times when you both disagree

These will surely be outweighed by pleasure

You'll have heard many words of advice in the past

When the secrets of marriage were spoken

But you know that the answers lie hidden inside

Where the bond of true love lies unbroken

So live happy forever as lovers and friends

It's the dawn of a new life for you

As you stand there together with love in your eyes

From the moment you whisper ‘I do’

And with luck, all your hopes, and your dreams can be real

May success find its way to your hearts

Tomorrow can bring you the greatest of joys

By today is the day it all starts.

Ladies and Gentlemen, It's been an emotional day…….… even the cake is in tiers. I'm sorry that's a terrible Joke but I had to put it in.

It now gives me immense pleasure, not to mention relief to invite you all to stand and raise your glasses to the new Mr & Mrs Ferguson… To Nick and Katie.

Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day.
