Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy

When to Go: May

Best Honeymoon Destinations Amalfi

We’re not sure whether it’s the pastel coloured buildings that decorate the cliffs, the utterly delicious food or the amazing local wine that makes the Amalfi Coast one of the most magical honeymoon destinations in Italy, but what we do know is that it would be wonderful for your upcoming honeymoon.

It is the perfect mix of beach and culture, and if you held your wedding at a foodie wedding venue, there's nowhere you're better off heading to continue the trend.

Positano is the Amalfi Coasts’ cover girl, made famous by its rainbow cascade of boutiques and divine restaurants that are splashed across Instagram. There’s a chic hotel around every corner, but here are our favourites.

Where to Stay

Il San Pietro di Positano

Best Honeymoon Destinations Amalfi Hotel

If you want your honeymoon destination to be oh-so Southern Italian then look no further Il San Pietro in the heart of Positano. It has cliff side pool which overlooks the quaint little town of Praiano (tick), it is the only hotel in Positano with its own private beach (second tick), and it has its own private yacht which can be hired for half or full day trips (massive third tick).

If you’re wanting to go all out (which you totally should for your honeymoon), then stay in one of Il San Pietro’s Prestige rooms. Individually designed by Fausta Gaetani, they’re the pinnacle of Mediterranean interior design and all include a private terrace and huge bathroom. Winner.

Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa

Once a 17th century monastery, Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel and Spa is a luxurious boutique hotel which opened its doors in 2013. Ideally located between Positano and Amalfi, it strikes the perfect balance of seclusion without solitude. There are 20 contemporary and stylish rooms to choose from at this property, and when you’re not out exploring or relaxing in the on-site spa, you can spend your time wandering around the luscious cliff-side grounds which boast some of the most incredible views along the coast line.

Hotel Villa Franca

With the picturesque cobbled piazzas of Positano just steps away, the stylish hilltop retreat that is Hotel Villa Franca allows you to press mute on reality and totally absorb the glamour of the Amalfi Coast. Rooms here are contemporary and are spread across one of two traditional Italian villas.

Once your hearts have been won over then your stomachs will be too, since food is at the core of Hotel Villa Franca. The chefs here pride themselves on using some of the freshest, finest Mediterranean produce on the planet, and the dishes they feature in can be enjoyed from the Li Galli rooftop restaurant.

Bali, Indonesia

When to Go: Between April and September

Best Honeymoon Destinations Bali

Bali is one of the world's best honeymoon destinations, and no matter how many luxurious resorts open up here (of which there has been many), the island retains its culture and spirit. They seem to be resisting the strains of endless five-star hotel openings pretty graciously.

Each town and surrounding island offers the traveller something a little different: from the temples and tropical green landscapes of Ubud, to the abundance of health food eateries in bohemian Canggu and the glamorous beach bars of Seminyak. There is so much to explore, you’d be missing out if you didn't move around a little.

When to Stay

Taum Resort Bali

Best Honeymoon Destinations Bali Taum Resort

Start your honeymoon an hour’s drive from Denpasar airport in tourist honey-pot Seminyak. This place is jam-packed with cafes, clubs and pool-side cocktail bars. It might be pretty expensive compared to the rest of the island, but it boasts some of the most beautiful beaches. Stay in Taum Resort. It sits just on the outskirts of the town but is close to famous spots like Potato Head Beach Club. It is contemporary yet clearly inspired by Indonesian culture, and boasts access to the most glorious of rooftop bars.

The Haven Suites Balu Berawa

After a couple of days, hop up the coast to bohemian hideaway, Canggu. Great gift shops, quirky bars and health food eateries are popping up around every corner, but the surrounding farmland remains quintessentially Indonesian and beaches are a stone’s throw away. Stay at The Haven Suites: all rooms have either sea views or direct pool access, and are generous in space. Hire a bike here and cycle to nearby Echo Beach.

SereS Springs Resort and Spa Singakerta

Finish your honeymoon by heading inland to the island’s cultural heart. You’ll feel like you’re in the depths of the Indonesian jungle, especially if you stay at the exquisite SereS Springs Resort. Words can’t quite describe how luxurious this place is. You’ll be waking up to views of rolling rice paddies and will be close to the temples, markets and world class pool bars (Jungle Fish is worth checking out) that make Ubud so well loved.

Singapore

When to Go: Between July and September

Best Honeymoon Destinations Singapore

Forget reserving Singapore for lay-overs, this small Asian country has enough to offer to fill an entire honeymoon. Thanks to the city’s MRT system, you can zip around the sights in no time, leaving plenty of time for relaxation.

Dart between the bright colours of Little India, the street food of China Town and the dazzling super-trees in the Gardens by the Bay (if you lie beneath them as it starts to get dark, you’ll be in for a treat!). It is a great honeymoon destination for couples who love city-exploring.

Where to Stay

Marina Bay Sands

Best Honeymoon Destinations Singapore Marina Bay Sands

Marina Bay Sands is one of the most iconic pieces of architecture in the country; you can see it from almost everywhere in a 4 kilometre radius. There’s a rooftop bar with panoramic views, a shopping mall, the world’s largest infinity pool on floor 57, and a staggering 25 restaurants.

Orchard Rendezvouz Hotel

Orchard Rendezvouz sits a little further inland, close to the well renowned shopping street, Orchard Road. If you’re looking to stay in an area with a little bit of a buzz about it, then this place is for you. The rooms are light and contemporary, Hard Rock Café is 5 minutes away and a range of fitness classes will have you burning off those honeymoon treats in no time!

Park Royal on Beach Road

Back down towards the bay we have Park Royal, the hotel to stay at if a sizeable pool is your top priority. Once you’ve had a swim, head downstairs to their award winning spa which offers some of the finest Asian treatments around. You’ll feel well and truly zen.

Cape Town, South Africa

When to Go: Between September and February

Best Honeymoon Destinations Table Mountain

Sitting at the foot of Table Mountain, Cape Town is a honeymoon destination like no other. It is a spectacular blend of landscapes, cuisines and cultures, and within an hour you’ll be able to reach some of the most wonderful rural spots in South Africa.

Table Mountain National Park is the headline act here, but once you’ve absorbed the views from the top, plenty awaits down below. Walk the white sandy beaches and take a dip in the (chilly) Atlantic and visit some of the city’s excellent art galleries.

Where to Stay

One & Only Cape Town

Best Honeymoon Destinations Cape Town

One & Only is nestled within a cove naturally formed by the vertical cliffs of Devil’s Peak and Lion’s Head. It is the perfect coastal spot to allow you to experience Cape Town in all of its glory. One & Only might be a huge hotel, but it attains a sense of friendliness and calm, and it gets huge Hitched plus points for its one-on-one yoga and Pilates sessions, led outdoors.

Protea Hotel by Marriott

This stunning Marriott hotel sits right on the water front. We love it for its panoramic views of the city, gorgeous homely interiors and proximity to some of the city’s best bistros and bars.

Ankerview Guest House

If you prefer a slightly smaller hotel then Ankerview Guest House will have you feeling right at home. There are only five double bedrooms in the property and guests can enjoy a rooftop pool and one of the best breakfasts in the city. Oh, and the interiors are to die for.

New York, USA

When to Go: Christmas or New Year

Best Honeymoon Destinations New York

Ah! New York, New York: loved by those who have visited and yearned for by those who have not. It is a concrete jungle famed for its world class architecture and endless shopping. Spend your mornings frolicking in the snow dusted Central Park, before taking a trip to the top of the Rockerfeller Center. Shop ‘til you drop then sip coffee to your heart's content in Brooklyn, the city’s suburb of cool. We could go on, but it’s best you just visit yourself.

Where to Stay

Public by Ian Schranger

Best Honeymoon Destinations New York Public

Hotelier Ian Schranger lives with one equation in mind: “one plus one is three”. He says you must “put all the equal details together and wind up with something that is more than the sum of the individual parts”. If that is what has happened with his new hotel, then the equation is certainly one to live by.

Opening its doors in 2017, Public is a very new addition to the New York hotel circuit. It is located in the stylish Bowery district and is fiercly luxurious, but since Schranger believes luxury should be available to anyone who wants it, it isn’t as bank-breaking as you might think.

Empire Hotel

The Empire Hotel is not located as close to the Empire State Building as you’d expect, but the location is still ideal. You’re a stone's throw away from the southern end of Central Park and right in the heart of Broadway. If spacious rooms and contemporary interiors are your thing, then this will be your New York City hideaway.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn is the calmer and greener of New York’s offspring. It is stylish and liveable, but with creative energy and food outlets in abundance. 1 Hotel is your Brooklyn Bridge waterfront retreat with expansive views of the Manhattan skyline and a truly relaxing feel. You’ll probably never want to leave your room.

Rooms are simple: cream and blue tones throughout, and the little touches which make your stay ever-more excellent (free WiFi and an in-room entertainment service) are actually pretty easy to use.

Urban Lodge Hotel

Urban Lodge Hotel is again a bit of a design spectacle, where cosy Dutch interiors come to life. The lobby and restaurant are amongst the most Instagrammable hotel receptions in the city and the food served is not something you want to miss out on.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

When to Go: Between November and April

Best Honeymoon Destinations Bora Bora

Bora Bora has long been on the honeymoon hotlists of many, and for good reason. As you land on the island the views will remind you why you flew halfway across the world for your holiday. It is quiet, serene and lit only by starlight at night. But don’t be fooled! You don’t have to spend your entire break clinking glasses from a sunlounger with your new husband or wife. There is plenty to explore; if it were us (sadly it isn’t), we’d be snorkelling, diving and parasailing until we were blue in the face.

Hoi An, Vietnam

When to Go: Late Spring or Early Autumn

Best Honeymoon Destinations Hoi An

This little ancient town is marvellous: colourful, adorned with a million lanterns and nestled within some of the prettiest countryside in Vietnam. Cars and bikes are banned from the centre of Hoi An, so hire a bike and cycle from the winding streets, across the river and out into the luscious green farmland. By that time you’ll have worked up an appetite, and coincidentally, fresh food is priority here. All day; every day.

If a riverside house hasn’t been converted into a tailor, there’s a good chance it’s a restaurant. Unlike the rest of Vietnam, many of these are vegetarian. We’d recommend Minh Hien as your first port of call.
