About the Island

Mustique is part of St Vincent and the Grenadines, located 100 miles West of Barbados and surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. The island itself is privately owned by the Mustique Company and has a strict control on the number of plots and properties on the island, allowing it to maintain its exclusivity and natural beauty in the face of tourism. Originally bought and developed by Lord Glenconner, this paradise gained popularity amongst the rich and famous after the Lord gave Princess Margret a plot as a wedding gift in 1960.

How to Get There

Despite being relatively secluded, Mustique can be reached very easily, with connecting flights from Barbados and St.Vincent running on a regular basis, along with a ferry travelling between Mustique and St Vincent twice weekly. If you’re feeling particularly flush, you can even charter a private jet to fly into one of the three airports on the island.

Day tripping to the celeb hangout is also popular amongst tourists if you just want a taste of the A-List lifestyle, with many companies offering cruises from St. Vincent and anchoring on the pristine white coastline of Mustique.

How to Get Married in Mustique

If you want to go all the way with this Cheryl inspired destination wedding of a lifetime, there are a few things you need to know about getting married on the island. You will need:

  • Valid passports and ongoing plane ticket
  • Birth Certificates
  • Decree Absolute if one or both parties are divorced, and
  • In the case of a widow/widower a Death Certificate of first spouse
  • To be a resident of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for a minimum of 1 day, not including the day of arrival, before applying for a marriage license. The license is obtained through the office of the Solicitor General in St. Vincent, which is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

And lastly, you’ll need just two witnesses for the ceremony; now we understand the new Mr and Mrs Fernandez-Versini’s tiny guest list!

As the island is so small, you only have a few options of registered sites for your ceremony, however considering that these include hotels and villas fit for royalty it’s not such a bad thing!

Where to Stay

The brilliant Mustique Company have made it super easy for you to splash your cash, by listing every available villa in one place. Visit where you can filter breathtaking villas by number of guests and price. Take a look at the Aurora villa, frequented by the Middleton’s and the destination for Prince George’s first holiday, which features an infinity pool, grand piano and a five strong staff including a butler and private chef.

There are also brilliant options if you’d rather stay in a hotel for the destination wedding or honeymoon of your dreams. The Cotton House is a great choice for achieving both; with a week’s residency costing around $12,500, you can expect award winning dining experiences, weekly island cocktail parties and a ‘pillow menu’ of 13 different pillow choices, for when you feel like recreating The Princess and the Pea.
