How to Choose Your Wedding Hair Accessories

We help you choose the perfect wedding hair accessory to complement your bridal look

Yay you’ve chosen your wedding dress! Now you may be thinking about what accessories to pair with it.

Wedding hair accessories are a great way to add a finishing touch to your bridal look. Choose wisely, and the right bridal headwear can beautifully compliment both your wedding hairstyle and your dress.

When you choose your hair accessory you’ll need to take into consideration the style of your dress and what hairstyle you want. Glamorous brides may choose to go OTT with a huge veil or a glitzy tiara, or perhaps you’re a boho bride who wants to rock a flower hair crown.

You might want to choose your hair accessory after you’ve decided on a hairstyle so you know which kind to get, or you may prefer to pick a hairstyle based around your chosen hair accessory. The choice is yours!

If you’re stuck on what accessory to go for, read on for our helpful guide on how to choose your wedding hair accessories!

Tiaras and Headbands

Tiaras are perfect for glamorous brides who want to feel like a princess! How glitzy you go is up to you. Thin tiaras are a great way to subtly add some sparkle to your hairdo whilst ones with intricate detailing or extra sparkle are a show stopping look.

Headbands are a great alternative to tiaras. Lace headbands are a stunning vintage look and you may find that something like this works better with your hairstyle and dress. Floral details add a romantic touch. If you have a hairstyle that’s swept to one side, place a headband or tiara with side detailing on the side where your neck is bare for a beautifully elegant look.

Hair Combs and Slides

Hair combs and slides are a great wedding accessory as they add instant wow factor! This wedding accessory is versatile enough to suit most hair styles as it can be easily placed anywhere in your hair.

If you’re wearing your hair down you could sweep your hair back on one side and pin it in place with a gorgeous hair slide to add glamour. Hair combs are also a great way to add the crowning glory to a curly hairstyle. Brides wearing updos could pin an elegant hair comb where their hair is tied up for a sparkly finishing touch.

Wedding Veils

Wedding veils are more than just a tradition, they are an important final touch that can pull your whole bridal look together. Wedding veils are not a necessity, but the right one could be a wonderful accompaniment to your dress.

Again, it’s important to consider what hairstyle you’ll have when you choose your veil. Long veils generally work with any hairstyle, but brides with updos may find it easier to pin shorter veils in place. Because the material is light it shouldn’t mess with your hairstyle.

Long veils are an elegant look for traditional brides, however shorter veils and face visors are a chic alternative if you don’t want a trailing veil. A face visor is a great accessory for brides planning a vintage inspired wedding. Remember how your veil or face visor is fastened, as you may wish to take it off when the evening party begins!

Floral Hair Accessories

Floral hair accessories look incredible at spring or summer weddings but can also be worked in autumn and winter too, depending on the size, colour and type of floral accessory. Pinning a floral accessory in your hair is such a pretty statement and creates a romantic bridal look.

Boho brides planning a country garden wedding will be inspired by the bride from our 500th real wedding, Victoria – who wore a hair crown that was a floral masterpiece! Floral hair crowns are for brides who want to go all out with their hair accessory.

Choose your floral hair accessory depending on what season you’re getting married in. For example, pastel and bright colours for spring or summer weddings, orange and reds for autumn weddings and white for winter weddings! Details such as lace, netting and embellishment are great additions to a floral hair accessory.
