Our Real Wedding
We got married in Chester on Thursday, 6th April 2023; we chose this date as it was the Thursday before the Easter bank holiday weekend & Easter has always been my favourite time of year!
The Venue:
We used Hitched to find venues & we actually viewed 13 venues across the North West, then narrowed it down to 2. I gave my husband the deciding vote, as I loved both venues! He chose the Old Palace in Chester, as it married both traditional palace style with modern decor, as well as being an exclusive hire venue in the centre of Chester with plenty of hotels for our guests close by, it was perfect!
The Flowers:
As it was Easter weekend, I knew immediately I wanted Pastel flowers, so I started making Pinterest boards & had my mum search the Facebook marketplace for tablecloths/ chair bows, etc., to help reduce costs. Choosing a florist was difficult; I’d fallen in love with one florist, but I just couldn’t make my budget stretch. I visited loads of florists but couldn’t quite make my mind up, until one day we went on a walk around Haigh Hall in Wigan, when I came across AM Florists that did silk flowers. We discussed what I was looking for & arranged a second meeting to confirm my requirements and get a quote; I immediately trusted her to understand my vision. The flowers she created were absolutely incredible. I was slightly disappointed that the centrepieces were in martini glasses & not the bowls I’d envisioned, but everyone commented on how stunning they were & I got to keep the flowers after. I kept centre pieces for my mum, mother in law and sister in law as well as a design for our home. We then sold the rest on to another couple, knowing that the flowers will be appreciated at another wedding just excites me!

The Old Palace does their own catering, with plenty of options to suit all budgets. We opted for four courses.As our married name is The Pyes, I wanted pies for starters, the chefs designed ‘a deconstructed Chicken & Leek Pie’ which was stunning. Main was Fillet of Beef with red wine jus. We had a surprise course of Limoncello Shots & Limoncello meringue lollipops, as we have a love for limoncello in our house, the guests loved the personal touch We chose the trio of desserts; chocolate brownie, mini Eton mess in white chocolate casing & lemon sorbet.
The Cake:
I am SO LUCKY that my best friend owns a cake-making business, Little Blossom Bakery & offered to make our cake as our wedding gift! We had a two-layer cake with a floating middle; the top half of the cake was white chocolate & raspberry, and the bottom half was limoncello lemon. The Entertainment:
I had Karl Sweeney sing at my 30th Birthday & we loved him so much that my guests clubbed together and paid him to stay for an extra 45mins; as soon as Marc proposed there was no doubt that he would be the singer at the wedding… I booked him the same day we booked the venue!! And he was absolutely incredible, my guests still talk about him to this day! For the DJ I let my husband chose this, he had used A1 entertainment for a previous event & trusted Lee as a DJ… he also wanted a guest set for Anton Powers. (Out of everything we had on our day, the one thing we said was a waste of money was Anton Powers)
The Surprise:
My husband loves animals, and kept telling the venue that we was going to have tigers at our wedding I searched and you just can’t get them (SHOCK) so I started to search for other animals you can hire for weddings & came across Penguins from Amazing Animals, that you could hire as ring bearers. I had to get them as a surprise, only my bridesmaids & best man knew about them not even my parents had a clue, it was THE BEST surprise & had everyone laughing, they got to stay around for photos as well, it was so fun! They have since revisited the old palace for another wedding & their reel went viral!!
